Historical Traveler Reviews of The Georgian Terrace Atlanta
Southern Belle
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed here October 30, 2003.
This was a beautiful hotel with breathtaking views of Atlanta. The sun spilling into the room as i first open the door to my 1 bedroom suite was like opening the pearly gates to heaven. The luxurious texture of the carpeting felt great on my aching feet as i walked around barefooted in my room. The bed was so comfortable i almost didn't leave my room to see the city. The bathroom amenities were very elegant. The old stately ambience of the hotel really made me feel like i was in a southern mansion right out of "Gone with the Wind".
Room dark/ hotel lively

My small room at the Georgian Terrace was dark. Lightbulbs were burned out and there weren't enough lamps. There were no pictures on the walls making it seem very sterile but it looks like it has been recently remodeled. Don't expect bathrobes or your bed turned down at night. The toilet made weird drip sounds The hotel lobby is beautiful and you will see many lively parties on the weekends, many weddings with brides everywhere. The staff is oddly unknowledgeable about where anything is.
It is a big hotel but you would think the doorman might have known there was a pool on the roof.
The food was good in the grill and the bar was friendly and fun. It's right across the street from the historic Fox theatre and a great little jazz club. You can walk four blocks to a classic southern tearoom called Mary Mac's on Ponce de Leon. Try the cinnamon rolls and fried chicken. If you are going to a conference there, bring a sweater and ladies should wear pants because the air conditioning makes it really cold.
Charming, gorgeous, Georgian

If you're tired of the cookie-cutter chains, you'll love this architecturally splendid, romantic hotel in the heart of downtown Atlanta. We had a beautiful view of Atlanta both from our suite and from the roof-top pool. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. The hotel staff was efficient and courteous. As another reviewer mentioned it does have a different feel to it because of it's history as an apartment building - to us that was a plus. I've stayed at many of the top hotels, in Atlanta, on business but when my wife and I travel here for pleasure this is our favourite.
Decent hotel, strange feel
from flatironjake
This hotel used to be condos, and you can definitely tell. Each room has a pretty large kitchen plus washer and dryer. The service can be a little lacking at this hotel at times. The surrounding area seems like it used to be pretty dodgy but is gradually becoming gentrified. There were some pretty decent restaurants about five blocks away. Beware of the marshmallow mattresses! My back was killing me after a couple of nights on the way-too-soft mattresses.
Wow, what a hotel

Incredible, from the moment you step in to this beautiful hotel to the moment you leave you will be impressed. Great food, great service and an amazing atmosphere.
Gorgeous Georgian

The stay was lovely. I was there for 6 nights for a conference and the suite felt like a mansion. Front staff worked out a reservation mixup very nicely.
Only improvement would be a restaurant that is slightly more casual.
Georgian Terrace falls short

Just returned from The Georgian Terrace in Atlanta Ga. Very disappointed in this hotel. The bed in room 1414 should be tossed out the window. Bottom line you can't sleep on fancy English soaps. Regardless of how nice things look if you get no sleep you leave grouchy and unhappy. Regardless of this hotel's storied past it utterly lacks any atmoshpere, grace or charm. It looks pretty, but it is cold and impersonal. I felt no one at the hotel even noticed we were there dispite paying a large sum for a very small, average room with a bed that would rival medieval torture devices. Also, the blinds in our room were badly damaged and shabby, there were also burned out lights in a already poorly lit bathroom. I went expecting a destination hotel, left feeling ripped off, wishing for a Hampton Inn. The Ritz Carlton it ain't.
Poor Service

The hotel has historic charm, but...
Expect a twenty minute wait for your car to be brought up from the garage, and pay $22/day in parking charges for the privilege.
If you try calling down from your room in advance to take account of the slow valet service, expect to be told that you are not permitted to ask for your car until you appear downstairs at the curb.
Then try to get downstairs! It seems that only two elevators serve guests at a very large hotel. It is always a wait. And both elevators were broken at check-out time on Sunday when we visited. Along with scores of other people, my wife and I had to haul our luggage, two babies, and strollers down 9 flights of stairs.
The bellman we requested (and waited on for a half hour) never showed up to help.
There have to be better options.
Excellent Hotel-Great Rooms, Service, & Location

Everything about the Georgian Terrace Hotel was a pleasure -- the rooms, the food, service, and location were all outstanding. Everytime I stay downtown in Atlanta, I will stay at the Georgian Terrace.
A very nice hotel

I enjoyed staying at The Georgian Terrace. It is located in between the downtown area (CNN Tower) and Buckhead (shopping district); Located across the street from the Fox Theatre (worth the tour) and directly on the Marta line.
I stayed in a full suite (kitchen, living room, bedroom). It was very comfortable and quite cozy. The bed (mattress, sheets) was very comfortable.
There is a restaurant - I only ate breakfast there but the food and service was good.
Service was excellent. I was overcharged for the room but I talked to the customer service desk and all was taken care of.
Only complaint, the lighting could have been brighter in the bathroom.
