... beers overlooking beach and watched sunset, sisha and tea on roof top opposite guest house. Expect lots of hassle on the beach from the local women selling bracelets etc. We tend to sit in the bars/restaurants so they can't hassle us. The sun sets by 6:30pm where it drops dark so we made sure we were back by this time. Although it sounds early we also felt safer as the village had about 4/5 power cuts during the evening and it would be pitch black walking ...
Another last minute and tasty breakfast but a bit less daunting than yesterday's and we were off to the bus stop. Traveled north to Grasmere where William Wordsworth lived. We strolled around the village, stopping for a cappuccino early on and lunch a bit later, both at the same spot - The Miller Howe ...
... En route we passed Roman ruins which were excavations of the bases of walls. From those few stones archaeologists deduced the structure of the fort. A little further on we passed a man sitting on a bench by the lake strumming a guitar and singing, a pleasant addition to the walk. Light lunch, window shopping, people watching. ...
... We had missed coffee at the start cos the shop was shut! Without sustenance, we galloped on to Ashness Bridge and along a beautiful road then following a path alongside the tarn until we reached Watendlath. And guess what, the lone farm sold teas! After a break we took in the beautiful tarn, chatted to a few folk before a short climb over the ridge and a two ...
... and that is the Edinburgh Woolen Mill which is a chain of stores and has some very good quality clothes and linens and this store in Ambleside was no exception. Pat & I picked up a few more items for ourselves as did Darlene & Terry.
Pat & I did some walking around the town and discovered a small waterfall which we walked up to and sat and relaxed before doing some more wandering and trying to find our next place to eat for supper.
