On Our Way Home

Due to work commitments we end the cruise early. It would have been nice to have ventured into the state of Maine and seen Boston but duty calls. We learn that the horrid problem with the city sewer systems won't be fixed for another 6 months. Pier 21 looks so familiar from our trip here 2 years ago. The ...

Three Days in Halifax

... Halifax is mourning still the loss of its most beautiful green space which may never recover its former beauty.

People we interacted with:

Brian and Zelina (relatives of Doug & Jean) - spent an evening with them; Zelina had prepared a wonderful supper and then cut our hair for us. Brian (Dougs cousin) arrived home from work about 7:30 and filled us in on many details of local interest.

Gordon (our B&B host) - interesting fellow ...

In Halifax

... to Mike and Anna’s room for milk and cookies, and to get caught up on the years since we had last been together.

Wednesday, September 9 – In Halifax... We enjoyed our first real breakfast of the journey, bacon, eggs and home fries done to perfection at the Inn’s restaurant, then headed for the harbour. We wandered around down there for an hour or so, looking into the shops and museum lobbies. Then we jumped onto FRED who took us up to the ...

entry 5: Calgary/Halifax

... and boats. There were a lot of people out in their little sail boats too. The weather has been really warm here this week, it’s like hot weather is following me around really. You might say oh lucky you, but it’s just too hot, like yesterday was 32 and today is 30 and it’s just yuck, especially because I’m walking everywhere and most places don’t have air conditioning including Dalhousie University where I’m staying. Anyway I’ll stop ...

Greetings From Canada Day

... in a cemetery here, with another 29 in another two cemeteries. 59 bodies were shipped back to their families. Seeing the graves makes the whole thing more real somehow, especially the ones with no names as the bodies were never identified. They had to bury 116 people at sea due to a lack of embalming fluid on the recovery boats, still, that isn't many bodies given that 1495 people died. I also checked out the local Maritime Museum which has a good exhibit ...

5 heavenly days in Halifax

... about an hour they let me in but only after asking where I was going, who was I staying with, what my intentions were in the country!!

I met with Paulina and her son and cruised around Halifax for 5 days, The town has a lovely feel to it - bit oldy worldy. People seem to run on a differnet pace here but it definately has a lovely vibe to it. Its quite a clean in the downtown area which is quite small but very attractive ...

Catching up with the RV...

... produce. We had visited the market in Quebec City, of course, and the produce in this store just did not match up. But we still managed to leave a lot of cash there, and then we headed over to Canadian Tire, where we bought a small "boom-box", since, even though they'd emailed me that our RV was outfitted with a cd player, it wasn't. Thank goodness I'd brought along our plug-in adapter. So...after heading out on the wrong ...

The far East

... storage room as I had hoped they might. Immediately as you walk in the door its possible to meet the newest member of staff at the museum - Merlin, a colourful parrot. He was combating the inquisitive advances of a young boy and even more intrusive questions from said boy's father though so I decided to leave Merlin in peace. One of the largest exhibits in the museum deals with the Halifax explosion, which occured on December 6th, 1917. I find it ...

Greetings from halifax my last travelogue ...

... province in my trip and, thus, the fifth province in which I've heard that damn Ricky Martin song on the radio. I made it into Halifax but upon arriving at the Residences at Dalhousie University I found that I had a flat tire. Somewhere between Truro (where I had lunch) and Halifax I had run over a nail. 3 hours in the Canadian Tire waiting area and $140 later I had a brand new tire. I walked downtown to grab a late dinner. I selected The Argyle because it was busy but ...

... people there!
We're now just north of P.E.I. Had to watch "Sneakers" again. Fortunately I liked it (my 3rd or 4th time). We had some turbulence at one point. Exciting. Um...had my only 2 Heinekens so far (still 1h15 to go).
Well, that's my update. Hopefully when I write again, probably for the last time, I'll have my bag.

Chris Gauvin 4:24 (local time)
