A museum and gift shop were located in the "convento" wing, the only building left of the quadrangle that used to surround the gardens. We saw a display commemorating the Alfred Hitchcock movie "Vertigo" which our guide had already told us was filmed on the Mission grounds in 1957. Of course ...

... is deadwood lying everywhere and its very peaceful much like being in an outdoor cathedral. There was a serious forest fire back in 2008 and you can still see the blackened bark and fire damage to the bases of the trees and many areas where the undergrowth is still recovering. The bark on the Redwoods is so thick it protects them from the intense fires and they eventually recover.
