Today we had drove to the village of the Ndebele people. First we visited the home of Esther Mahlungu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esther_Ma hlangu). She is the most prominent artist behind the colorful traditional work of the Ndebele people. She showed us how she uses feathers to do her paintings. We then went on to the home of one of the queens of the Ndebele tribe, Nomsa Daphane – she hosted us for a delicious (vegan!) lunch ...

... gift of dried fruit, Fi. We left on the dot of 7 am as scheduled. A wonderful rainbow filled the southern sky, giving promise of a great adventure. A good days travel and now safely ensconced in a three bedroom chalet at Loskop enjoying the Roodeberg red wine courtesy of Paul and Nan - thank you!! We can't wait to sleep under canvas tomorrow ...

... under a tree. We couldn’t see much in the long grass. But the driver was sneaky. He put on a tape of wild african animal noises and the dogs jumped up! 9 of them! They became very alert, barking and looking "on edge," watching, looking for danger! Wow! (Apparently the tape is not welcome at the park, so the driver was careful not to use it in earshot of park workers.) It was fun to see so many wild dogs - when we ...

... the first hour we have seen, buffalo, elephant, giraffe. lots of impala, kudu, waterbuck, duicker - the river out east of Skukawa is beautiful, there is a pack off lions on the other bank, lots of hippos and crocs up out of the water as its overcast and cool. We have to be on the road for the 3 hour drive back to Middelberg, so it's a choice to go into the Malalene gate on the way out.... yes ...

Boeremark time (Farmers market) this market opens at 5am and ends 9am. It's very popular and you need to be there early for parking and products. It's at the pioneer open museum in Pretoria. This is a real farmers market with farmers and wives bringing all their wears. Biscuits, rusks, koeksisters, biltong from domestic beef to wildebeest, kudu, gemsboks, boerowors on ever corner, meat, meat, meat, frozen beef, frozen chicken, frozen lamb of all ...
