Walking the cradle of democracy

We arrived here on Wednesday night and by thet time we gathered our bags and jumped into a cab it was pretty late. We checked into the hotel at about 11:30pm and then popped over to a grill for a little late night snack and a couple of libations. It was a beautiful night and about 72 degrees out at midnight so we sat out on the patio and ate a little and had a few drinks.

By the time we got back to the hotel it was pretty late (or early, if you like!) so we made a slow start to the mo...

We had another great day today. We started in Copley Plaza where there was a really great farmer's market. Gorgeous fruit and vegetable stands, fresh flowers and fresh baked bread and pastries surrounded the plaza right in front of our hotel facing the Trinity Church. Under a clear, blue sky with bright sunshine, this was it! We got a couple of coffees and a ham and gruyere sandwich, found a shady bench...is this Boston?!

We got a couple of Italian ices and wandered through the Back B...

AWESOME!!! You have to experience this place!

from JEmery
My wife and I stayed at the Fairmont Copley Plaza for our Anniversary...it exceeded our already high expectations. We were greeted by the most gracious and courteous doorman, the Front Desk was warm and welcoming, there was an amenity in our room with a note from the GM wishing us Happy Anniversary (the Reservationist had asked if it was a special occasion), Hskp was efficient and kept our room very clean! We were upgraded to their new Concierge floor, Fairmont Gold...how beautiful! We had use of their lounge which resembled a Back Bay mansion, and it included free continental breakfast, sodas and hors d'ourves in the afternoon. When I placed my wake up call, they offered to deliver free coffee to our room! Now that is service!!! I can't tell you how great our experience was...they even have a hotel dog, Catie Copley, that was hanging out in the lobby! My wife and I took the dog for a walk down Newbury...it was a delightful visit and we will be back! Thwy have made us raving fans!

Our 40th anniversary weekend...

... at The Fairmont was wonderful! My husband and I were married at the hotel 40 years ago and our experience this time was just as grand as we remembered. The hotel is simply breathe-taking, and yes, being a historic hotel, it has its minor quirks. Our bedroom was beautifully restored, spacious at Boston standards, and had a lovely view of Copley Square. Our experience at dinner in the Oak Room lived up to its reputation. Our server and wine steward were both knowledgeable, eager to assist and made us feel as though we were the only diners in the restaurant. The food was excellent and the wine list was top notch. We would highly recommend The Fairmont.

Nice hotel, excellent staff

We stayed here as the second leg of our honeymoon.

As most people would be we were amazed at the grandeur of the entrance and lobby. The staff on the front desk were very helpful and upgraded our room from the booking I had made in the UK.

The room was very clean and nicely decorated, with separate bath and large shower area.

The conceirge desk could not have been more helpful, with both directions and places to visit. First class.

Our only complaint was the price and standard of breakfast. The morning staff were not particulary attentive with the food provided being, in our opinion, over-charged and nothing special.

This complaint aside we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would return.

Nice but not amazing

My husband and I stayed here on a fall trip to Boston. The location is very good with primo shopping and restaurants nearby. Overall the hotel is quite charming. Our room was decent size but I saw another room and it was quite small! Staff was friendly and accomodating. All in all I'd say it met but did not exceed our expectations.

The Best Ever

I am a member of the Fairmount Club, having joined while staying at two of their lovely properties in Banf and Victoria, Canada. Arrived and asked for an upgrade and was given the Presidential Suite. What a place, what a room, and the room service was to behold. The bathrooms, the kitchenette, the living room with fireplace, all so centrally located and near the subways. Just the finest people I have ever encountered in many years of fine travel.

Simply outstanding . . . again

To be honest, I used to stay at The Copley Plaza on a regular basis while in Boston for business, but until my last trip, had not in several years because the hotel was in much need of renovation. In any case, I decided to try the hotel again as I heard that it was undergoing a major restoration. Much to my surprise, when I arrived at the hotel, the doorman, who I had not seen in years, greeted me by name and asked how I had been - I was shocked at his memory, and rather embarrassed about mine. When I arrived at the Front Desk to check-in, the clerk welcomed me back to the hotel as well and explained some of the new features of my room. Although I had not met her in the past, it really made me feel welcome to know that she knew that I was once a frequent guest at the hotel. When I arrived in my room, I could not believe the changes that took place - everything was completely new and very tastefully done. They really captured the essence of the hotels past grandeur and added great amenities like a large work desk with extra elec. outlets and a high speed internet connection, a safe in the closet and a very comfortable bed with lots of pillows. The cordless phone was also a nice touch. All in all, my two night stay was outstanding - this hotel is certainly moving in the right direction on all accounts and is well worth a second look!

Old School Charm

During a business trip to Boston I stayed at the Fairmont. The first room I was offered was ok, but a bit dreary. I had reserved a King Room and received a room with 2 double beds. The front desk was able to upgrade me the following night to a King Room with a great view of Copley Square. I felt a little like Evita as my room had a big bay window and a big window in the spacious bath. The room change was good for me as it made my stay memorable and more comfortable.

It should be noted that as of February 2004 there is heavy renovation in this hotel and half of the rooms are blocked for full upgrades. My room was near the entrance for the construction workers and had I not been getting up early for meetings I would have been awakened each morning by their noise, radios, carts moving heavy equipment and smoking.

Overall my stay was pleasant however this hotel is luxurious int he old school sense and lacks a lot of the modern perks we find in newer hotels like gyms, pools, wine hours, etc.....

Want to be treated like royalty? Stay at this hotel!

My mother and I stayed at the Fairmont Copley for two nights and I could never have felt more royal! First of all, the doormen are such gentlemen -- they always open the door for you, they're always on their feet, ready to call a taxi, and even gave us a complimentary umbrella one night when it was raining! Then, you walk into the grand hallway entrance and look up--you feel like you stepped into a 19th century palace! The staff were excellent, quick check-in. The rooms are beautifully decorated. I absolutely love the old feeling to the hotel.

It's not "modern" If you are planning a trip to this old and historical city, you might as well stay at a beautiful, old, and historical hotel and be treated like royalty!

Not worth the money

My husband and I stayed here for the first night of our honeymoon and were very disapointed that it didn't live up to it's hype. The halls were dirty and paint was peeling off the doors - the staff were OK - but the food was overpriced. The bathroom was tatty - and I wished we had just stayed at a holiday Inn, cheaper, and cleaner and better breakfasts !! We stayed the rest of the trip in Sheraton's which were lovely. Tina Hodge

The Presidential Suite

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our stay at the Fairmont Copley in Boston was wonderful. I was sick with a cold when we arrived in Boston on our honeymoon. Our first stop was to our hotel - the Fairmont Copley - and we were early so the room (we booked a regular room) wasn't ready. We trekked in the rain over to the Art Museum to kill time until we could get our room. When we went back a few hours later, the lady at the front desk gave my husband a key to the presidential suite. You can not even imagine what we walked in to - two bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, and a master bedroom. We had five windows that faced right out on to Copley Square! It was truly amazing. The staff at the Fairmont Copley couldn't have been nicer...and we have a great honeymoon story to boot!!!!
