    ... wear the raincoat I had bought especially for the trip! The aquaduct was very interesting, a marvel of engineering 127 feet high, with 18 pillars and 19 arches.     ... Slate mining was established on the mountain opposite the town. The Dinorwig slate quarry is an enormous site above the Victorian workshops that processed the slate. Over 3,000 people worked the slate mine and workshops at a time when slate was well used around the world. Even our meals in the Victoria Hotel were served on slabs of slate.
