Later that morning, we drove around Cooks Bay to Whitianga, It is situated in Mercury Bay, so called because Captain Cook was first able to pinpoint the exact co-ordinates of New Zealand by tracking Mercury across the sun. ... this last evening made a zucchini and bacon quiche for dinner that was fabulous and I have no idea what she'll make us for b-fast but as delightful as they both are I imagine we will be well fed before our departure. Thus ends a vacation of a lifetime for Mary and I and winds up a four month journey for me...Truly, truly an auspicious beginning to the new year!

Took the coast road to Hot Water Beach on the east of Coromandel Peninsula.
Amazing place where you dig your own pit in the sand and the geo-thermals beneath the beach make a lovely toasty spa bath from the bubbling hot water.
Lunch in the cafe then, over to Cathedral Cove for a walk via Stingray Bay to see the power of the sea on the rocks.
Another beautiful home cooked meal with our hosts and far too much wine!
