... There were cars, and a slate mine, and more people! But it was still about an hour and a half to finally reach here!! What a day. The lady a reception was quite proud of us - she said they had to send out the emergency rescue 3 times in the last week to find people who didn't turn up! We were lucky as today is again good weather. It would be impossible without visibility - heroes could go with maps and compasses, but not us. But despite all this tale of ...

I have to admit that I was very anxious last night - wondering if we could do this walk....and if we would get lost and walk miles off the track etc...well, I have to say that we have had a fantastic day!! By this stage we had chilled out, and are now on the 4th train heading for Carlisle, but get out at St. Bees after about ...

Tuesday 5th. - Wednesday 6th. August 2014 We couldn't have asked for a better start to our holiday. After a very good nights sleep we awoke to a beautiful Summers morning. After a healthy breakfast with an assortment of seasonal berry fruits, Eira packed a picnic to take with us to spend the day boating on Lake Windermere. We started off with sunshine, ...

... we could see the landing lights of 4 planes lining up to land on the runway. We arrived at Manchester airport about 19:00hrs and were surprised by the apparent lack of security at the baggage arrival area. We took a courtesy bus to pick up our hire car from Alamo/ Europcar - a Fiat 500L with plenty of room for luggage. With twilight most of the way, it took about ...
