Hongkong highlights 17th Left half poisoned for a 30 hour 'challenge Anneka style', shop as my friend BME calls it, in Hong Kong verdict: successful mission, stayed in (the real) Kowloon, same place as 3 years ago The Empire hotel so knew exactly how to get everywhere in double quick time which was great and got the subway to the mainland Mong Kok area (aka camera shop central). Last time we used star ferry but OMG the subway is so brilliant and air conditioned and so cheap about 54p for 4 st...
Hong Kong, China danskgirlThe flight We left cold, rainy NYC for far nicer weather all the way on the other side of the globe in HONG KONG! Anticipating the boredom of a 15 hour flight, Karen brought along virtually every magazine published by the company she worked for! We had about 20 some-odd publications with us...little did we know just how awesome Cathay Pacific was! The airline had all this friggin' in-flight entertainment available to our disposal! We gotta kick out of this movie called "Model," which was this...

It was a smooth travel from Manila to Hong Kong. The flight's breakfast on board was fantastic. My mom and I (we were seated together) had a small toast amongst ourselves with our apple juices. We had big smiles on our faces. The weather was lovely. There was a little delay before our departure, but all's well as we were served our warm meals.
Upon arrival in Hong Kong, we were to meet up with the travel agents linked to mom's conta...
We left Chongqing early in the morning to catch an Air China flight to Hong Kong. Our hotel was in the Kowloon area, across Victoria Harbor from Hong Kong Island, an area known for shopping. We visited Bobby's Tailors to have suits made for Kyle and Dylan, and walked the neighborhood. Sushi for dinner. In the evening we walked to the harbor to see the daily light show and Avenue of Stars.
Hong Kong, China theklangesBarbara had set up a half day tour for us in the morning. We were picked up at our hotel and took a bus to the top of Victoria Peak. The tour continued to the Stanley Market, Aberdeen and the fishing boats, and a jewelry factory. We were dropped off on the Hong Kong side at Times Square Station and took the subway over to the Central District and Soho. We did some shopping and rode to the top of the World's Longest Escalator. Halfway up we found Krispy Kreme. Dinner was Indian food, and we we...
Hong Kong, China theklangesA walk to Kowloon Park and to the tailor to pick up the suits. Then lunch at a Cantonese restaurant where we found some strange meat. In the afternoon we took the subway two stops north to the Mong Kok area and the market areas - electronics, sporting goods, fish and clothing. Great crowded flea market, we had fun bargaining here. In the evening Barbara went to a special Chinese banquet and the New Year's parade. Kyle, Dylan and I had a buffet dinner at the hotel that was supposed to be fancy...
Hong Kong, China theklangesWe took the subway and local double decker bus back to Stanley Pier to meet up with the Quinns from Los Alamos who now live in Hong Kong and teach at the International School. They took a bunch of us out on a boat ride for the day. We had lunch on Po Toi Island, then toured around to Repulse Bay, Aberdeen, Victoria Harbor and were dropped off at the Central Pier. It was cold on the boat but a great way to see a lot. Dinner was at Dan Ryan's Chicago Grill. There were New Year's fireworks over ...

... Lady. We drive into the town and thru a driveway between buildings to turn and drive by the pier area. We are the second cruise ship in the line. Everyone smiles as she appears before us. We are back home. We return to the ship for only as long as it takes to drop off our bags and head out to the giant shopping center that is attached to the side of our ship. It is a four story shopping center that is full of designer shops at high ...
Hong Kong, China danharriet... it is a surprise that the fireworks will still shown. Not wanting to leave, we checked the Main Street shops for any last purchases after the conclusion of the fireworks. It was then a matter of enjoying the last of the atmosphere while we collected our belongings from the lockers and then left luggage outside the park. All too soon we were back on the MTR, heading to Tsing Yi where we connected with the Airport Express train. Hong Kong Airport was quite busy in the period after ...
Hong Kong, China v1213... and phone number so that I could be contacted if my bags were found to which I responded "don't know and don't have one." I ended up giving them a university phone number and "CUHK" as my address which they assured me was inadequete. I did weasel HK$500 out of them for toiletries however, which was the best compensation I'd gotten yet. Wednesday - Location - CUHK - Back to back 4 hours of sleep left me pretty tired but I still couldn ...
