      I decided to bike mostly solo today and meet Patrick at camp. I feel like I'm missing some opportunities when I'm following him. I was cranking up a steep section through a neighborhood when an old man started talking to me. I stopped and had a conversation with him through traffic.       We had a leisurely morning before getting underway about 11:30 AM. We have left the Mohawk river and are in the man-made portion of the Erie Canal. The channels are mostly straight but still scenic. We have stopped for the night above Lock 21 near New London, New York. Now this is a quiet stop! No trains or roads ...
