Arrived in Abu Dhabi after 15 hour flight from Sydney and was greeted by 38 degree heat at midnight (bit of a contrast to the freezing plane). Of course no flesh allowed here so sitting here sweating it up! Sat next to a nice English couple of the plane, who enjoyed mixing alcohol and sleeping tablets just like myself. It took 11 years to build and cost hundreds of millions of dollars to complete. There is marble and gold everywhere and inside one of the highlights are the crystal and gold chandeliers that weigh 20 tons a piece. The mosque can take 40'000 worshipers in several prayer halls!

... we were able to board reasonably quickly and easily.

The man I happened to sit beside was very aromatic, not in a good way. Then I noticed the same with some other passengers. I adjusted the fresh air vent to blow across my face.

Our delay continued to increase because we were waiting for about 40 passengers from a connecting flight. They finally arrived. We pushed back from the gate at about 23:05, a little more than an hour ...

... They gave me a gift bag of Croatian items and we had a nice pot luck where they brought some Croatian foods and one of their grandmas made me some homemade Rakija so we all did a couple of shots as the class ended! Meanwhile, my colleagues invited me out to a really nice lunch with lots of wine and meat! They are so nice and show a lot of appreciation for me being here. I got so many calls, emails, and invitations to drinks, little gift bags, etc. I was also invited to visit ...
