We had a great dinner last night with Tom, Gractia and the two kids in Dayton Ohio. After 36 days, 35 nights, 7956 miles (we should have driven around another 44 miles!), traveling through 18 states and one province, 13 lunches eaten in the car, seeing great friends and family, visiting places we have never been, seeing this vast country we live in, many glasses of usually great wine, wonderfully prepared cuisine, pounds gained - too many to mention, and we had no big fight along the way, we are finally home. We stopped for a break at the Alan Shepherd Museum. There were nice displays and the original movie of the moon landing. I remembered waking up my kids who were 1 and 2 at the time to get up and watch it live. I doubt that they remember it.
There was a display of all the astronauts that came from Ohio. There were a lot, probably more than any other state.
Here we are in Dayton. Every other mile in Ohio is being dug up or paved, but we had zero hold-ups, just lots of hairy, narrow lanes at 65 mph & hundreds of 16-wheelers movin' the USA economy along. Tonight we 'll dine with some calm dignity (we hope) .... a Japanese restaurant right across the road from the motel.
