    First up to correct an error in a previous blog.......our new drivers name was Bert not Bertram as the stupid auto correct did and I stupidly didn't check before publishing.     ... trained over a period of 3 + years & becomes an expert in their own field. The average age of workers was 47'years so basically if you get a job there it's almost for life. John Deere look after their workers very well. The tour went for 2 hrs in the actual factory area but 4 hrs all toll. A buffet lunch was supplied so we were all fuelled up for a leisurely 15 min walk back to main train station in Mannheim. Left via train at ...

    ... for some sites, shopping and dining. We roved around and by 3:20 we were eating at the Havana Cafe. Good food.

    Next on some peoples' addenda was shopping. James and I tagged along in the stifling heat - good times.

    The day in Mannheim was capped with spaghetti ice (that's ice cream - ice cream is called ice in Germany) so we had spaghetti ice. See pics........

    By 6:04 we were on our train for Speyer and back in the house by 6:45.

    ... this year. At the start of the year, I knew the basics, but I couldn't follow a conversation and know I can get out what I want to say and understand most things. Like everything, it isn't perfect and it still takes me 3 times to read a text and understand it, but a huge improvement overall. I did put in a lot of effort to get so far, so I hope the receding hairline was worth it!

    ... or the gardens, one has an amazing view of Heidelberg, the Neckar River, and the Neckar valley far into the Rhine plain. On a clear day, Mannheim is even visible on the horizon.
