Check "climb the falls" off our bucket list

... to satisfy her co-workers and took the first exit to join Andy. After the second leg of the falls Jarod had had enough and was too scared to keep going, so he took the second exit and joined Mom and Andy. Dan, Jessica and I were having a great time, though, and went all the way to the top. We don’t have any pictures to post as our camera is not waterproof so we didn’t bring it, but we do have a copy of the video. I’d rather not talk about how long it took to ...

No!! We don't want a taxi....

... were really keen for sales. We just bought some sunscreen and came back on board the ship. We all went back to the H2O zone and enjoyed the relatively empty pool area.

It was another incredibly hot day so it was very relaxing to just kick back and hang out by the pool. Now THIS is a holiday!!

After dinner we put the girls to bed and went watch the show.

Port of Call for the big cruise ship

Ocho is an interesting city, divided by a straight line, on one side (from the center to the port), relatively safe area day and night, upscale boutique, restaurants and on the other side, the chaos and not so safe area. There are a few hundreds meters of beachfront.

No Problem Mon!

... so interested in watching the rescue that we skip all of our morning plans to watch from the front of the ship. After spotting the sailboat, we knew that the activity would be on our side of our ship, so we headed to our balcony. What a trying rescue with the waves bobbing both boats around...felt like it took forever, but it was a success. Tonight is our Bayou Steakhouse dinner with another couple from our table. We ...

Sandals Dunn's River Villaggio

Our trip to Sandals Dunn's River Villaggio in January 2008 was one of my all time favorite vacations. First off let me say, we absolutely love this resort. The service is probably some of the best in the entire Sandals Resort chain. They truly go out of their way to make you feel at home here. As a returning guest, this level of service is something that has been lacking at many of the other ...

2 goals, 13.1 mi, 1 research study, and 9 months

... between Peace Corps time and 'real-world' time. I think most volunteers can identify with this. Anyway, let me continue on to what I wanted to share with all of you. The main two elements of my existence right now are training for my first half-marathon and working on my research project. The half-marathon is an event that I have wanted to do for a long time now, probably three years. Unfortunately various roadblocks have prevented me from actually ...

Oh my, Ochi!

... than anything I'd ever had in the States. Both treats are really cheap and can be found everywhere. After the ceremony, we were whisked away to a party at a local club in Kingston. There was an abundance of current volunteers, and lots of dancing and talking. I had a great time, and I am grateful to have had that time to say goodbye to people because many of us will leave for our sites immediately the next day. I wasn't leaving until noon, so I had a good 'ole ...

A Jamaican Dance

... a gentleman, I should have known", he said with a false gesture of mental clumsiness. "Since I am a gentleman too, I will sell you the coasters and two shot glasses for only thirty dollars. How does that sound? Irie?" Not wanting coasters and still fixated on the bookends, I looked to bring this dance full circle. It was time for a twirl. "How much for the bookends?" "The bookends? Thirty dollars", he quickly answered without missing a beat. He slyly placed the ...

I Came. I Saw. I LEFT!

This was a horrible nasty little place I hope to never see again. When you walk down the street, it is filthy and taxi drivers nag at you and then throw insults when you refuse to take a taxi. I Came. I Saw. I LEFT! One almost saving feature of this hideous place was swimming in the water, but even that turned south when I felt what I believe to be a sewer pipe under my feet.
