    Last day on the Broads

A travel blog entry by kuno.budack on May 29, 2015

We had the mooring all to ourselves. We all slept better than ever. Pity that this actually isn't really another day on the Broads as we had to hand back the ship at 9:30 the latest. So we slowly got ready and packed and skippered back to Ric*******'s Boat Yard in Stalham. This was the only time I had to back into a space between ...

What an exciting night! Rain had been forecast but the wind whipped up the waters first. Finally some action. I like hearing the river sloshing onto the sides of the boat as well as a slight rocking. We had a lot of the former but non of the latter. To make matters worse Jane got scared. She saw the neighbouring boat hammer in their stakes further so guess what I had to do in the middle of the night......I slept well but Jane ...

Much better nights sleep. We left all the cabin doors open so condensation was much less of an issue. It again was quiet and I personally was warm enough. Jane however still slept in her fleece (could of course be to ward me off....). Usual breakfast. Perfectly boiled eggs and cereals. The we switched the heating on with the hope that this will give us warm water - but it didn't. I rang Ric*******s and apparently we have to run the engine ...

... under Ludham Bridge was smooth. Jane's boat handling is excellent. We turned right into the River Bure towards Wroxham. The river is wide and both children had further goes at steering the boat. Marcus is very good, too, but Amy needed a lot of guidance.

Near Horning we found some mooring. As Jane got so stressed last time we decided to swap places again. Me at the steering, Jane on the ropes - and we managed the perfect mooring. Only to decide that we ...

    1st day on the Broads

We got up the normal time and had breakfast. I packed and Jane did all the important things like ironing and washing up the last few plates.

We left well on time and had a good run to our first stop which was Mundford. There was a war memorial naming the uncle of grandma, William Houchen. Grandma's ancestors used to live here and we went to St Leonard's church where we found the graves of the Shinn's as well as that ...
