There was too much to do, so we spent the entire last night in New Zealand packing and arranging the house while James and Selena, our house minding flatmates, slept blissfully unaware. Fiona swears the cats knew something was up, but I thought they just simply found a nice place to sleep and ignored us. A quick cuddle and they went back to sleep as we wobbled out the door at 5.30am piling the gear into the back of Mark's Citroen. One 17kg Bag and one 25 kg bag, yes ladies, that's one bag eac...
Hong Kong, China mikeandfiHong Kong: 19th to 20th March. What a City. Simply unique. City Planners all over the world should make Hong Kong a compulsory stop. 20 to 30 storey cloned apartment buildings line the drive in from the Airport. Enormous Cable stayed bridges fly over the harbours teeming with container ships of all sizes. The bridges are so high, the ships look like matchbox toys. As we get closer to Kowloon, the buildings are replaced with old crumbling "Pigeon Coop" apartments with washing hanging precariou...

Last week was once again a very busy week for me. This time my group presentation in Strategic Management was due on Tuesday. Our task was to analyze a Hong Kong based company and develop a business plan according to our findings. We chose UBS Ltd. and presented our findings to our class. In the Hong Kong Economy tutorial on Thursday I had my 2nd presentation where we had to explain the structural changes in Hong Kong's labour market including a comparison with Taiwan between 1985 ...
Tai O, Hong Kong steibock79... It didn't really make up for it, but it didn’t hurt. While in HK, we went to the must-see Victoria Peak (via tram) and hiked around the top, visited the HK zoo, HK park, Kowloon park, HK Art Museum, and watched the HK light show (HK Island buildings light up to music for about 15 minutes, reminded us of Disneyland). We got dim sum every morning as well. Gotta do that while in HK!
Hong Kong, China paulfeuerborn... br><br>Anyway, it's another long ride through Kowloon back to the hotel. Along the way, C contemplates if he should extend his stay in Hong Kong. This is despite the fact that we already had non-refundable tickets at hand. I would never do such a thing, simply because I'm a massive cheapskate and I'd be like '**** no I'm not spending another $100+ on tickets'. As we go through the Kwun Tong and ...

However I forgot my passport which I need to login so I just shopped while Katie and Caroline facebooked and emailed for an hour. While I was shopping I met up with two other friends who are sisters, Katie and Beth and some of their S@S friends. Katie is 26 and still in college but before going to college took time off from school to work and travel. She spent a few years in Europe and China before ...
Hong Kong, Hong Kong claudiv... our favourite venue, Lan Kwai Fung to meet one of Sam's ex colleagues. Ryan has been in HK for about 3 months and was great to hear what he thought of the place. He took us over to a bar in Wan Chai where we admired some very energetic dance moves. We didn't fly out of HK till 8pm last night so we thought we would do one final excursion that day and go out to the Big Buddha in Ngong Ping. It is the tallest and ...
Hong Kong, China sarahsammy... the tram back down to the city centre. At night many of the buildings in the commercial district put on computerised light shows with horrisontal floors and vertical lines lit up in various colours that slowly fade and move around the building. Commercial centres in cities like this always astound, the size of the buildings and the clean straight lines in Hong Kong the variety of egg shaped, curved and stepped buildings pointing up is matched by horisontal roads and walkways ...
Hong Kong, China martin84... marked with Chinese symbols arranged in an infinity 8 figure dotted on the mountain side. It was kind of like an Asian Stonehenge to me. Not too many people knew about it. It seemed like there were only Chinese tourists up there, not too many tourists from other parts of the world. It made it that much cooler. At night we decided to go to the Night Market. We stopped in at a cozy restaurant near our hotel called Tea House restaurant. The place was really reasonable as ...
