... is the capital of the highlands on the bank of the river Ness. We arrive and immediately see a ton of restaurants and bars. We are excited! We first check into our hotel/guesthouse. It is so freaking nice! It's clean and the wifi is super fast! And we get breakfast in the morning which is a huge bonus! Plus it's right in the center and walking distance to everything. After getting settled we head out into town. Right down the street is Inverness ...

... A battle was fought there in 1689 and there is a point called Soldier's Leap, where one jumped across river to escape and actually made it. After the walk we had lunch in the picnic area there. Jumping back on the bus we drove to Loch Morlich. It's a loch with a beach, and surrounded by pine forest. Well they call it a beach. It was gritty and a funny orange/brown, but I'm used to being spoilt ...

... So now I knew where I was and I knew where the nice big wide motorway I wanted to be on was, it was just a matter of connecting the two. I'm sure I drove down someone's driveway and out their back paddock but eventually I got onto a lovely 4 lane motorway (of unknown speed limit) and I was on my way. This road headed through the Cairngorms, which is another of Scotland's national parks and includes the Grampians. Another very beautiful and ...
