We left our lovely York apartment around 11am and drove through the lush, soft countryside to Hull. Some farmers have harvested and rolled their first crop of hay already, the wheat is ripening and strawberries and aspasagus are for sale in the farm shops. As well, cherries will be early this year, but I will miss out. The roadsides and roundabouts are thick with flowers.

On the advice of the woman in the centre we headed to the Minster for Evensong, which was amazing - a choir and organist and seats in the central section of the Minster for the service. We didn't know what to do with all the standing and sitting and praying but followed other's movements and managed not to do anything out of place. Next stop was Yorkshire Lavender in the Howardian Hills near Terrington. The grounds and gardens were gorgeous, and there was a fantastic shop where I didn't buy anything. Unfortunately the lavender won't be in flower for a several weeks, but many other flowers were in bloom.
