Wellington-- is it as boring as they say?

So, a piece of advice to anybody who cares-- don't try walking from the train station/bus stop to Cuba St. with no map and lots of luggage. It takes a bit. I survived, but was not delighted that the hotel was never just around the corner. Good restaurant choices in Wellington though. A really nice setting, too. More great weather too. Sunscreen is great-- even better when it's applied evenly. Sigh. Oh well!

Sunshine

Today, I left Wellington. Met some great people on the shuttle on the way to the ferry, and continued on. Lyttle-- you'll be happy to know, I got coffee and cookies bought for me on the train. (And a couple of guys from Israel who asked to have a picture with me.) Yesterday, I took the cable car up the steep hill, and walked forever. Went through a botanical garden and then a bird sanctuary of all places. I had no idea what each bird was, and some people pointed out that I could find a 'tuata...

... dragged up on stage to assist with a 'puppet' improvisation game, moving one of the guys around who then had to alter his patter accordingly. Sarah watched on, flushed with pride. Definitely not embarrassment. Oh no, I'm sure, very sure. :) After quick walk home round the harbour, a surprisingly good night's sleep, and an unsurprisingly freezing and rubbish shower in the morning it was time to catch the ferry and head off to the unexplored and mysterious lands of the South Island.

Impressions of Wellington and Kev's in the Sh*t!

... The authority turned one application down as they did not think playing an iPod through speakers for the evening qualified as a 'special event'! I am inclined to agree but a good try. The main story on Saturday was about the 5 hour rescue of a horse who fell through the cover of a septic tank. The horse was called Kev and is worth $10000. The owner stated 'He was in big trouble ...

... we'll canter! Next on our list was Zorbing! Now, if you've never heard of Zorbing, to try picture this: Rolling down a big grassy hill in a clear plastic ball filled with hot water. Yes, like a hamster ball! It was lots of fun, like a cross between a waterslide and a rollercoaster! (Or as Andrew says, a washing machine!) It was a bit expensive, but we'd do it again! Well, that's all for now. Read our next entry for Waitomo Caves, and Windy Welly! Kia Ora! love, Andrew and Laura

Decided to explore some of the small lanes that according to my guide book are the best places for coffee, snacks and interesting company with your beer... Had 6 places on my list and found one.... And that was empty. Watched some more tennis and chatted to an aussie guy for most of the evening. Monday 26th January Melbourne - Australia Day! Bought a ...

The first entry (a day or two overdue)

... lovely, although the steps down to it are a nightmare for my little legs. I look like a duck walking down them, or a two year old with 'sticky feet'. It's not ladylike. Our bedroom is far bigger than Lally had made out, and plenty of room for our belts and corsages (of which we have more than clothes)! Lally took great pleasure in scaring the **** out of me by telling me that a big earthquake is overdue in the city. I think her ...

She, though, jumped off the shuttle bus and headed straight for the car to pick me up at the track end as agreed as an emergency measure, so the hostel then tried to reach her at any of the public buildings near the track end and finally got the message through to her as she was just giving my personal details to the police and department of conservation rangers having unsuccessfully waited for 2 ...
