The countdown

Sunday the 9th August and three weeks to go before our trip to Italy. At the moment nothing is booked although we have identified a really lovely villa in the town of Cortona. Susan and I are googling places to go and things to see, and to be honest for me at least excitement levels are rising. It will be our first holiday since getting married and our honeymoon on Jersey. It promises to tick all the boxes sun, culture, good food and my lovely lovely ...

... thought of the Mercedes but felt more comfortable in the Audi so we waited. We were on the road by 12.45, a bit later than we expected but didn't have far to travel. Our original plan was to get to Sheffield as it is close to Sherwood Forest and halfway to the Lakes District but each time someone asked where we were headed they either pulled a face or asked why? Drove off past the young attendant having a smoke around the corner from the bowsers closer than I was at the front of the store! We had dinner ...

... All in all, this was fascinating and very educational. By the time we were finished with the tour, we were freezing, so we popped into the Cock and Hoop pub for a drink and to sit by the fire to warm up. By this time, it was nearly dinner, so we decided to go to the Pitcher and Piano Pub for dinner - this pub was right across the road. The food was exceptional.

We found our way back to the car park and headed back to the B & B and fell asleep by 9:30.

A trip to Lincoln

A travel blog entry by thereays on Oct 07, 2011

... It is a very impressive Cathedral, vast inside, and light and cheerful.

The weather is pleasant and we wander the grounds of the Cathedral and Castle until thirst drives us to a rather nice pub on Steep Hill.

Then on further down the hill, to eat an all day breakfast in a small cafe next door to the Jews Court. Excellent sausage and black ...
