... impressive cluster of boulders on the side of Hasty Bank. We paused here momentarily for a drink and a photo then pressed on to White Hill. This was the hill from which we needed to call our B&B to arrange pick up at Clay Bank Top. There is no accommodation there necessitating a short car ride to Chop Gate for our overnight stay. We had a very pleasant walk indeed. One of the highlights since leaving the ...

With only a week to go I thought I'd try out our first blog entry! Just a boring entry about preparation. Anyway to ensure we can be self sufficient for at least 48 hours, as in the fridge, lights and water pump keep running without electric hookup. Dinner at the White Swan last night was not great. The tiny pub only had 7 guests, 3 C2C walkers, 2 C2C cyclists and 2 locals sitting at the bar drinking with the publican and his wife. The 4 of them were going out as soon as the rest of us had eaten our dinner. We therefore felt a bit under the pump not to hold them up! They were already a little twitchy when Katrina and I turned up 15 ...

... of barley on slippery clay paths, and in and around dozens of farms, farm gates, farm mud/dung. The smell of manure was overwhelming for much of the time. We arrived at the tiny village of Danby Wiske at 4.30pm. Although not the longest of walks we were glad to get there. Walking on roads made my heels sore. We left our smelly muddy boots at the door on some newspaper and made our way to our room to rest and shower before ...

    Reeth to Richmond

We had a lovely 21 km walk today across gently rolling fields into Richmond. There was little hard climbing or struggling through muddy bogs. The route took us out of the Pennines, still following the Swale river, past the tiny villages of Marrick and Marske before descending into the castle town in the early afternoon. Further east we could make out the flatlands we will be covering in the next few days and beyond them the high grounds of the North Yorkshire ...
