Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's Capital

There are 3 public holidays in a row May 1, 2, and 3 so we took our first trip. We drove from our home in Penang to KL (as they call it here), which was about a 3.5-hour drive. We stayed in a great hotel called The Ascott that had a pool on the rooftop giving us an amazing view of the adjacent Petronas Towers (yes, the ones in that movie with Cathrine Zeta-Jones). During the week we hit the KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center) where Fashion week was going on. April watched a few fashion shows and ...

We have arrived in KL

After staying up for our short but uncomfortable flight, we have finally arrived here in KL... something really nice for a change.. The newly opened terminal 3 flying out of the Philippines is really awesome btw. We had a nice chat with our cab driver, Asmi, he was ok. We asked him several things about the weather and the traffic flow since we were flying out this afternoon. We arrived in the city really late, 0145h and found Chach, waiting for us at the lobby of Ascott. Just some chitchat be...

Our first encounter with the Petronas

Gracee and I spent the morning exploring KL city center before our flight via MH that afternoon. It was really late when we arrived the night before (arrived at the Ascott before 2am), Chach was tired and had to go to work the following day so we pretty much stayed in the hotel. Since it was also very late, the lights of the petronas were turned off, so I really couldn't appreciate it. It was only that morning that it hit me.... wow... this is really Malaysia. We were dwarfed by the massive s...

We're back in KL

We said our good byes to the wonderful Island of the Gods and we are back in KL. We flew again and again, I was going crazy, I still hate flying and I didn't enjoy this one. Good thing we were next to an interesting person, whom we talked to, Johann from France. When we got to KL, we had lunch at the airport and we basically bummed around the hotel and slept and waited for Chach to come home. That guy is so unpredictable, he could be really bad and really sweet within a few seconds. He made u...

The final hour

I woke up forgetting the previous night's events... and then i realized.... i think my camera's busted!!! i went to get my charger and tried to plug it in the only compatible outlet in the entire suite which was on the floor beside the work station. Chach found me there sitting on the floor and asked how I was feeling, he said he was just checking on me, come back to bed.... ok... i'm having one of those "feel good" moments again. So I went back to bed again. I was badly hung over (again, omg...

Comedy of Errors

... it was... I don't know if there is anything funnier in the world than listening to Asian people sing Michael Jackson and Celiine Dion...not in a mean spirited way, but truly its very fun to listen to the Asian accent combined with English let alone put it to music......to Michael Jackson....of all people...

The club itself is called the Beatles club so we were sort of expecting something a bit American in decor... I ...

Back in the KL

... where locals eat and prices are low. The "patio" area in front of the restaurant is packed with menu hawkers trying to real in tourists willing to pay a higher price (unknown to us). KL's China Town has oodles of atmosphere, so even if the prices were a bit inflated on the street it was a great dinner. The biggest scam is that they put cold hand towels and peanuts on the table, then charge you 2 bucks if you ...

Petronas/KL Tower/Bukit Forest/SkyBridge/Visa

... some point, but that would be saved for another date...). I was also glad I was there early on in the week because I heard from other people by Thursday and Friday people don't feel like working here and usually turn away more tourists and such from getting visas. It's not like the U.S. where you have to work and do your job if you are there. Things in Southeast Asia are run completely differently. Here, a $10 bill can take you much further than expected, anywhere from ...

Butterflies, Hindu Blessings and the Love Guru

... Vacation tour of the Tower Bridge. Okay then. We headed to the Butterfly Park. At this point its hot and we don't know where we are going but on the map it looks pretty easy to get to. Once again one of those places that look easy to get to but...its not. We ended up at the bird park after walking uphill for 45 mins to find the butterfly park was the other way. We took a taxi to the Butterfly Park, better to go with someone who knows how to get there. We are both ...

KL The Shopping Paradise

... do. For that Shan went off to find a car while Tim and Rebeca and I took a taxi back to downtown KL to meet for lunch. Taxis in KL are cheap and we should have taken more advantage of them. From our experience with the other places we were able to walk to many of the sites and we tried, incorrectly, to do the same here. Too much walking and getting no where and ending up tired and frustrated and not wanting to walk any more meant we missed out on a few of the sites ...
