    The never ending journey

    ... flight but of course now was late arriving in Sydney. (and you can guess what that meant can't you?)

    Anyway sped through immigration with our new smart passports and then waited and waited and waited for our suitcases to appear. And they didn't. So trundle along to Baggage Services and lodge a report - hopefully they'll arrive sometime today.

    Headed then to Qantas domestic transfers and as you'll have guessed by now - we'd missed ...

    ... until Saturday morning. We are out of practice not having had a fortnight's break for over 20 years and some junior members of the team not at all Weather update for packing purposes - still drought conditions but not expecting to be hit by lightning like last weekend - SF is a lovely sunny low 20s, Yosemite a scorching mid 30s and LA only slightly cooler ...

    ... Getting home, we found the house colder inside than outside! Two problems here - one, I left the vents open on two of our velux windows…; two, the underfloor heating that was meant to be kept on in the kitchen, wasn't - probably gave up with the arctic temperatures. Poor old Merlin - she had been sleeping on Anna's bed to keep warm.

    ... a chap came to sit at our table & plugged his lap top into a power point under the seat. Just what I needed to charge the iPad prior to boarding!! As soon as check in was possible we went to our priority line with passports in hand. Of course we misplaced our paperwork somewhere along the line, but there was no hassle, & before we know it we were in the Etihad Lounge confronted by a feast of ...

    And they're off!

    ... my worry over the size of my hand baggage, measuring it in all dimensions with the tape measure I usually use to measure skin lesions and swollen legs at work (which, thinking about it now, has never been washed...) and then doing a last minute repack as a result.) We had tidied the kitchen, switched off all the plugs and electrical equipment (apart from the ever trustworthy fridge freezer) ...
