As Shannon and I passed the hash pipe with some strange dudes we met at the live sex show, it dawned on me......I don't think we are in Koln anymore Toto!! Welcome to Amsterdam!! Hey Everyone, we have arrived at The Grand Hotel. Lucky for us our room was not made up in time so we got upgraded twice to an appartment. Our appartment is two story with a lounge, dinning room, x3 bedrooms with their own bathroons with a veiw of the canal etc. Its AMAZING! we even have our own front door out to the main street :). Around the corner we found a Disel outlet shop with Cow girl/boy boots and jeans etc. Glenn made his first purchase...ahead of catherine, who is now the only one ...

Amsterdam revisited

I must say that visiting the Netherlands twice was quite an
experience.  The first time was whirlwind donor meetings and jet lag
but the second time I managed to fit in a boat trip around the canals
which gave me a greater understanding of Amsterdam.  I was also able
to have a proper T-bone from South America - don't you just love
globalization - but with a reminder that Netherlands is below sea
level when a mouse did a cameo appearance in our restaurant which

Poor Breakfast buffet

Very clean and staff very helpful. Had a room at the front of the hotel and very noisy at night.

No shower curtain so bathroom floor soaked every day.

Extremely poof buffet breakfast.

Stayed 2 nights in this hotel. It is in a very good location and is quite nicely decorated with decent sized rooms. The problem is it has no air conditioning in the rooms and Amsterdam can be pretty warm in summer. This means you have to leave the windows open and as mentioned in the other reviews there are lots of mosquitoes. Might go back in winter but never in summer again.

Horrible experiance

Stayed in this hotel in May 2004 with my Mum and had a terrible experiance. We woke up in the morning to find our room had been robbed, they took everything, money, phone, passport, perfume, camera, etc etc.....

They had actually got in while we slept which was absoloutly terrifying. There were 2 'strangers' caught on cctv entering the hotel at 5am.

Its a shame because the hotel itself was lovely, we got a lovely room and it is in a great position, I work in a Travel Agents and have booked this hotel numerous times for customers but will definately not be ever again.

I cant understand how a 3star hotel can let 2 strangers wonder in at 5 in the morning when there was a night watchman on?

I know that this can happen anywhere but I cant help feeling really let down by this hotel.

I stayed at the Albus Grand for 4 nights in June 2004. I woke up after the first night covered in mosquito bites and discovered that it must have been a normal issue as the wall was covered in blood where people had been squashing them! Yeuk!! However, I was moved to another room and that was perfectly adequate and fine. I was lucky enough to get a great deal so I found it to be a very good value hotel with a great location and friendly staff. It always amazes me how much hotels can vary on their rates, so shop around!!! I have seen rooms advertised online at twice the rate I paid !

Nice hotel but not overly nice. As other review stated, a little difficult to find the first time, but well located to everything with nice restaurants and shopping close by. The rooms are standard size and comfortable. Not crazy about the "shower room" - that is, the bathroom does not have a tub or shower stall, rather a drain on the floor in the corner with a shower curtain around the corner (I have never seen this before). This is not an upscale hotel, as it lacks many ammenities such as room service or a real restaurant in the hotel. Nice staff (granted the smoke detector did not go off in my non-smoking room with the window open, and you could smell pot in the hallway from other guests).

I would defenitely consider staying here again if my Internet-travel-site's search shows this to be one of the better deals.

The reviews below worried me a little but we have just spent one night at the Albus. We found it to be quite central, a short walk from Rembrandt square at the end of the Kalverstraat shopping area. It was a little diificult to find so take the exact address for the cab driver or get off the tram at Rembrandt!We found the staff to be very helpful, our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable.As a party of eight the dining room staff re-arranged the tables and provided refills without prompting.The breakfast could be better, I'd recommend eating when it's busy so that the food is being replenished, that way it's fresher and not too greasy.It's not the best place in town but for UK?75 I thought it represented good value for money in a convenient location. I'd stay there again.

Unfair criticism

We have just spent 3 nights on holiday at the Albus Grand and feel that the criticism given by other reviewers is unfounded.

Our experience was of a clean, well-presented modern hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The room was of a reasonable size for Amsterdam and the breakfast was generous and of a good standard and variety. There is a lift and staff were happy to store our luggage on the final day.

The location is within an easy walk of many attractions in Amsterdam and near to tram routes for those further afield. We would happily stay there again.

Albus never again Hotel!

Terrible hotel, I was mislead by the name. This hotel is definately not as GRAND as they claim to be. Housekeeping staff is very rude and does not clean well. My room on the 6th floor only had one very small window. No ventilation in the room.In my bed I found hair of the prior guest. Never seen such a poor breakfast buffet. Definately not worth the Euro 175,00 I paid!!!Even Euro 25,00 would have been too much!Pascalle

It is always good when hotel management take action on guests who wants to risk other peoples life by sabotage the smoke detector. Very good Hotel with friendly staff and it's very safe.

Great Room, Great Price

If your going to Amsterdam to enjoy the freedom of the herb, Don't stay here, They threatened to call the police because we set off the smoke detector, and we even had a smoking room, they were rude to us there after. In a very liberal country these people were not very tolerant, they are Russian owned and not very helpful. I would recommend the "Rho Hotel" it is a great place to stay, with much better service and cool people, always go dutch when going to amsterdam
