So tired, but here

Hey everyone! Just a quick note! I have arrived in Johannesburg after a very interesting flight with a group of South African friends I made full of Cape Town Tips. I am at my hotel in my room and so tired. I can't wait to take a hot shower and get a good nights rest. I get up early in the morning for my flight to Madagascar for the next 18 days. Hope all is well in the states! Much Love, Elise

From Johanesburg to Windhowek

Mach 31, 2007 - Johannesburg Airport, South Africa. Well, you can say this is where our African experience began.... We arrived in Johannesburg March 30, late evening and as planned we were greeted at the airport by a driver with our names printed on a big sign. "The Airport Gran Hotel and Conference Hotel", was just 15 minutes drive from the airport. The hotel was clean, comfortable, with friendly staff and a decent dinner buffet. The noises of the low-flying massive airplanes did not stop u...

We drove back to Johannesburg from Kruger National Park which took about 5 hours. Decided to stop at the Aparthied Museum, but got lost and spent most of the day driving around downtown Jo'burg, which was nerve racking becuase we had heard the horror stories about being stopped at a light and having someone come and smash our windows. What we saw of the Aparthied Museum was very good. However, because of the whole Escom and not enough energy crisis, the power was cut to the museum just as we ...

The first Chapter

... before embarking on a big trip as going into the unknown can be quite an intimidating thing, especially when in th epast month id watch films like The last king of Scotland and Blood diamond. Once at the airport, I walked straight past Mark Hughes in my haste to get checked in without even noticing him, the other boys got a glance but panicked and failed to get a photograph or a signed tit which we were all pretty gutted about. The check in was easy ...

... and barred windows and doors. Even smaller shops and businesses have metal doors that must be opened from inside before one can enter. South Africa is a country of extremes for sure.<br> It was so lovely to have Beverley and Kyle meet us at the station in the city centre and whisk us out of the centre of Johannesburg to their home in the suburbs. It was obvious with the security getting into the bus station that this is not a city to take lightly and being new to the city would have ...

Full report of the trip

... Next day into Etosha - I do not know what is more relaxing than sitting at the water hole at Okaukujo and watching the animals. It was great difficulty that I got up to drive. At this stage all the driving was eating at my bones as well. We spent the night at Namutoni camp. Had a jackal at the campsite scavenging for food. L mounts nearly dropped open as I went after it to chase it away. Was a warm evening but we could see some lightning in the ...

... of the shops were closed!!! Fairly boring day! Met up with Cat and Denz in the evening - hoorah for them rescuing me from boredom!! We had a really nice evening - we went for dinner in a 'Keg' pub. Thursday 15th: I decided to go back to the 'organic' market in Bryanston - Tandor's parents took me there last time I was here. I got horrendously lost on the way, so I had myself a bit of a tour of West Johannesburg!! It was soooo hot in the car, I was a ...

So, every one started congregating on Rhett's house in Johannesburg in the few days leading up to the trip. Myself and my Cousin (Ryan), being from Queenstown, decided to go up early to get some partying in. We headed to Manhattan's on the friday night, where we met up with Marc, Rory, Celest, Jess, Valdette, John and Kath. It was a pretty big night, and we were grateful for the Toot and Scoot guy (who looked like he was on some sort of hard-core drugs) who came ...

Well, I'm finally here. Yesterday, I met up with Katie, Steve, Cameron, and Tom at Heathrow. We couldn't get seats all together, but I was next to Katie. This enabled me to watch her enviously as she slept most of the way. The flight was fine; it didn't get to the unbearable point despite the best efforts of the in-flight movie, 'Sweet Home Alabama'. Johannesburg welcomed us by producing blue skies that lasted ...
