      Off to Manchester after supper to be next to the airport for the early morning flight! Need to check in at 6.40 am (sigh)... But very excited to get on the way! Hoping for an upgrade due to it being my birthday (10th feb), however, will be very surprised if i get one! Fingers crossed. Etihad flight to Bangkok via Abu Dhabi ...

      Today sees us leaving Witton Gilbert with Passports! Vicky took us to Durham Station and then we caught the train and bus to Manchester Airport! The whole journey went very smoothly, with the exception of lugging large cases up and down stairs at York but hey ho! Very early in Airport - 1hr before gate opened. Looking forward to being frisked by Si but he's in Teneriffe! Both well and now waiting for Gate to open and signing off for next ...

      The seat-back map kept me in touch with the countries we were passing over: UAE, Oman, India, Malaysia then down the Straits of Malacca into Changi airport. We had good views of the night-time twinkly lights of Dubai (but sadly not the Palm or World islands) plus the very busy shipping lanes approaching Singapore, but the rest was dark land or ocean and just...well...dark.

      ... first experience of Irish music. I just have to add a note here about campgrounds in Ireland – they are great! Unlike many European campgrounds, the Irish ones seem to cater for campers in tents and provide some communal areas to escape to in bad weather! Great to see!

      My homecoming was quite a logistical challenge, with Bec unknowingly scuppering all my plans to surprise her at work.
