... anyone else on that site, and just visited a second hand scooter shop. After a lot of "attempted conversing" in very broken English with the salesman (who was very, very nice), we settled on a scooter. This little scooter was found out the back of the store, away from the main forecourt (obviously our price range didn't encompass the shiny, newer scooters out the front!) but it looked good! It was the only one he showed us which he could guarantee the engine was in good nick, ...

... wasn't much use to me in my current strict diet phase! But Alexandra enjoyed it. It was definitely a cool place, where I'm sure we'll spend much more time, but we were tired, and I wasn't feeling the best, so we headed back after a couple of hours.
The end of the first week of teaching! All major disasters averted! Already some major and minor success stories in my different classes, and I now felt SO much more confident about teaching and going up in front of the kids. Roll on next ...

... is one of the biggest commercial harbours in Taiwan, but it is still nice to see the deep blue ocean of the south of Taiwan.

Like I said, I was only in Kaohsiung for one day and the only real activity I did was going to the Old British Consulate. The building is really cool as it is one of the oldest western structures in Taiwan and looks typically British with its red brick walls. The view from the consulate is very beautiful as it is perched on top of a huge hill and ...

Saturday started off nice and slowly. After our first exposure to true teacher life at our relevant branches the last few days, we felt we had earned a good rest! But also keen to explore our new home, and I was also personally very happy to be feeling much better and able to get out and about, we made plans to visit the Confucius temple.
The Confucius temple in Tainan is the oldest Confucius temple in Taiwan. Students at Chong Xue were always very surprised when they heard that ...

... was only in Tainan for one night but I wish I could have stayed a little bit longer to explore central Tainan and not just Anping. Tainan is also famous for having some of the best and most unique food in Taiwan so it would have been nice to experience more of that whilst I was there. If you go to Tainan maybe stay for two or three nights to fully experience what the city has to offer!
