... and fluffy, a toffee with hazelnuts and peanut butter or salty caramel ice cream. Thanks again to Sous Chef Alyn Rees again who patiently has allowed me to try and retry this maneuver. The end result it pretty awesome in appearance and quite tasty as well! As an aside all the ice creams served at the Gilpin Hotel are made in house. They are rich and creamy and a match to the best Italian gelato!

I was woken at 3 am by the sound of moderately heavy rain. It continued on and off until breakfast and I thought we were going to need our waterproofs. I've tried to take the local roads as much as possible to enjoy the scenery and maintain a slower pace on the days I'm not in the kitchen. At first the roads were a bit scary: they are narrow very narrow often with buildings or walls right up against the pavement. People drive fast in the middle of the road, they drive on the wrong side of the road in ...

... in the Thermos was very welcome! Although the weather to our west blocked all views of where we had been, to the east we could see to the horizon and where we will be walking. Our feet can look forward to beautiful green English fields and no hills! We snacked amongst the sheep for 15 mins, but Katrina started to get cold so we headed off down the hill. The descent was steeeep and difficult in places. We finally reached Haweswater and began the long walk around the shoreline. Of ...
