Good Location, poor room choice
The location of the hotel is great by the harbor, however it dosen't help unless you get a room facing the harbor. Our room faced a parking lot across the street. Recommend booking a harbor view room. Other wise hotel was a good experience.
Wish we could have stayed longer!
My husband and I had only one night in Auckland before flying to Fiji and chose to stay at The Sebel Suites because it was near the Harbour and the bars and restaurants.
We thought the hotel was fantastic. Staff were really friendly and so helpful, and even though we were only staying one night we had a bottle of sparkling wine waiting for us in our room because we were honeymooners.
The room itself was great with a large bathroom with separate shower and bath, big double bed, TV, stereo and DVD player. It had a kitchen area and a washing machine and a dryer. We even had a small balcony with great views of the Sky Tower.
Location wise it took us about 30 secs to walk to the Harbour area where there are loads of bars and restaurants. Can't comment on how accessible it is to other areas of Auckland as we didn't have the time to explore further.
We would love to go back and spend more time in Auckland and we would definitely stay here again.
We had a 1 bedroom suite at the Sebel and it was fantastic! It was a corner room so we had 2 large windows. It came with a refrigerator, dishwasher, cooktop, and washer/dryer. The furnishings were in very good condition. The staff was only average on service.
The only problem we had with the hotel was upon arrival. We arrived at the hotel at 5:30 am after flying from Los Angeles. We had requested an early check-in but there were unable to grant it. Our room was vacated but not cleaned. Since it was a Saturday there wasn't much we could do at that hour so we sat in their lobby until 10 am when our room was finally ready.
We liked the location on the Viaduct - lots of good bars and restaurants right outside the door. We would stay in this hotel again on our next visit.
Great location and staff
I booked this hotel based on reviews from this site and was not disappointed. The hotel is fabulously located near the harbor and was an easy walk to restaurants and ferries. The rooms were a welcome respite from more rustic accommodations in other parts of the country and the in-room washer and dryer were definitely appreciated! I would highly recommend this hotel for its convenience and it is considerably less expensive than the nearby Hilton.
Whilst I concur with previous reveiwers with regard to the quality of the suites and staff at the Hotel I believe I read one review that mentioned noise! We specifically asked for a Harbour View. If any future users consider this option they should be prepared for sleepless nights, well at least until 3am in the morning anyway. We had unfortunately chosen our first night's stay that coincided with an "All Blacks" Game in Europe whitch reulted in a 2-30am kickoff on Auckland TV the result was a night that sleep wasn't possible until 5-45am in the morning. Our assumption that this was an exception but no, the average quiet time was as I previous 3am. Be warned!!
Great location & amazing views
The Sebel Suites is in a great location, within easy walking distance of the ferry building, SkyTower, restaurants, etc. Our flight landed at the crack of dawn, and they kindly let us check in early. All of the rooms have a washer/dryer and kitchenette which is a big plus. We stayed there at both the beginning and the end of our trip, and the second night we paid for a room with view which was worth it, especially given the weekend rates are lower. My only minor complaint is that the bar scene below got a bit rowdy late Saturday night (go figure), so we stuck in ear plugs and were soon asleep.
Beautifully furnished suites
Beautifully furnished suites with lots of little
extra touches. We booked a package which
included breakfast and with a suite overlooking
the boat harbour. Would recommend this
package as the breakfast was the best ever.
Just a couple of complaints - the entrance and
parking hard to find, we stayed on a saturday
night and were awakened by night club patrons
making their way home.
Great hotel, great staff
I have stayed at the Sebel Suites in Auckland many times over the past three years. The rooms and views are first class and the service has been great and very consistent. The Hotel has a nice arrangement with the Mecca Cafe along Viaduct Basin in which you can charge meals to your room.
The health club, Tepid Bath is across the road and very convenient.
I would recommend this Hotel above all others that I have stayed in Auckland and look forward to each visit.
The best hotel I have ever stayed in! (and I have stayed in many 5* around the world). Our room overlooked the bustling marina, where the Americas Cup preparations were in full swing. Fantastic room complete with self catering style facilities such as washing machine, tumble drier fridge etc. 2 TVS, very comfy lounge area and the most amazing bathroom I have had the pleasure to use. Would highly recommend this hotel.
An excellent location and sumptuosly furnished, these suites are the best I've stayed in. Fall out of your room into the heart of the America's Cup Village. All of the rooms are well appointed and you cannot beat the location. Good base to explore the city from, and really friendly people.
