Mayfair...may you beg fairwell.
We went on expedia, from the pictures it had appeared to be an excellent hotel. Prior to making the reservation, we have searched other sites including hotel, etc. Mayfair from expedia was roughly 20 dollars cheaper. Regarding the room, the rolls of toilet paper were used. They simply folded the used ends to make it appear new. The room was rather tiny and as requested we asked to have a smoking room with a queen bed. On the contrary, we did not get a smoking room nor a queen bed. Taking aside to the fact we did not stay in the hotel room for site seeing...the room was tiny. Finally...regarding the room service, we were asked how we wanted our meat. Turns out they only serve processed meat. I don't suggest this hotel, stay at a cheaper/nicer place in Illinois and ride the metro for folks planning to site seeing over summer. Saves your gas and the road rage driving downtown.
OK, at best. More distressed than impressed.
I purchased through priceline and read the reviews once I saw what I "won" so I wasn't expecting much. It was ok for the price I paid through priceline which was more than 60% less than other rates found elsewhere for the same dates, but, if I had paid the higher rate, I would've been more than disappointed. My stay was from May 12-14, 2004, on check-in I upgraded to the 2 bed suite for an extra $20/night. (seemed like it wasn't a bad deal)
The room was spacious but lacked cleanliness as there was an old used bar of soap still in the shower and the toiletries hadn't been restocked. As we were going to dinner, I noticed the door was extremely unsafe, the frame around it was loose and with very little pressure, it could've been kicked in. There was no security lock on it, either.
They courteously switched me to another room which was better, but, still had its problems, this one also lacked a security chain (who uses those anymore?) The toilet leaked and some of the lights were blown, all except the toilet leak were fixed by the next day. Overall, the elevators were slow and this place just barely warrants a 3-star rating. It's annoying to see the beautiful Renaissance across the street because all I wanted to do was go checkin over there which I wouldv'e sooner had I not used Priceline! (Which happens to be where I finished my St. Louis stay)
The last night I ordered the webtv in order to price shop for other hotels, save your $10.99 because their system badly needs to be upgraded, it's sluggish and many websites (travelocity for one) wouldn't load because the browser was too old!
I wouldn't dare stay here again and would never recommend it unless you don't mind "low-budget, 3-star wannabe" hotels. This was my first time using Priceline so I don't think I'll be doing that again either.
A bit rundown around the edges
I couldn't really tell where any major renovations were done. My room was a decent size, but carpet was a bit worn, furnishings looked old, coffee decanter was chipped and missing a big ol' chunk from the top.
Customer service was okay up until the morning I left--my requested wake up call never arrived. Restaurant was a bit limited in selection, but it was really about the only game around. Downtown St. Louis is shockingly empty (and a bit scary) after 5 pm during the week and ALL WEEKEND. If you're going to St. Louis for anything other than business, I would not recommend staying downtown. About the only things to do were to see the Arch and go to the casino riverboat.
Spent a snowy weekend Dec 12-14, we had a 2 room suite on the 14th flr, geat view of the city, ejoyed the small elegant feeling. Room was very nice, bathroom floor could have been cleaner, I just don't like to see dust or dirt in the corners....front desk service was excellent,food was fine dinners for the 2 of us were under $100 with a few drinks ...have spent much for alot less.. service was little slow appeared to be under staffed.... we will be back for another relaxing weekend.
We stayed at The Mayfair in September to see The Lion King at the Fox Theater. We had a 2-bed suite and the room was spacious and well-appointed. The Mayfair is easy to find, very convenient for down-town and quick commute to Union Station. We parked at the Renaisance public garage a block away and didn't use the valet parking.
Since we didn't need the car, it was $12 to park for overnight. We ordered great pizza at midnight from Marizio's and had it in 30 minutes. We loved the hotel. We usually stay at Embassy suites and found it very comparable (excepting the comp breakfast!) We would definately use this hotel again.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Mayfair. We were given a two room suite even though we purchased the room for very cheap from another website. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The hotel is at a prime location for anyone that wants to tour the downtown area...so many attractions that are within walking distance. Our only complaint would be the valet parking...it was expensive and the guys were very slow at retrieving our vehicle. All in all we had a wonderful time!
Good But Could Be Better
The customer service was very good. We had a problem with a movie that we rented in the room and the desk personal was very helpful in resolving the problem. The parking in the area is the biggest problem and the bathroom could have been a little cleaner and neater.
Good and Bad
The hotel itself is very nice and the employees are friendly. Parking is our biggest complaint. The Valet service was $25. We chose to park in their parking lot ourselves for $18 overnight. If we were to leave at anytime, we would lose our spot and have to pay another $18 overnight parking fee. The parking lot was also very tore up and we bottomed out the car twice. The parking garage next door had a sign that stated No Overnight Hotel Parking. After booking our room online, the front desk had no reservations for us. However, they did accomodate us based on the confirmation page we printed out from the internet. The room was clean for the most part. There were candy wrappers under the bed, holes in the blanket and a big blood stain on the bedspread which we did not notice until the next morning. All the amenities listed on the website are for a charge, the only "free frills" are the usual soap, shampoo and coffee. Our room, however did have a nice view of the parking lot where we could see a group of men peering in our car windows. All in all, it is a nice hotel, but I seriously doubt we will stay there again.
You May Fair better then we did
We had been to the Wyndam hotel website and they had described the Mayfair in St. Louis as having millions of $ in renovations. They also show the multiple room suite with a desk and aron chair. None of this appears to be the case. The room in which we stayed, hadn't been refurbished and according to the waiter in the bar there was or had not been any renovation to any part of the hotel.
When we returned to the hotel on Saturday night (about 10:00 PM) there were firetrucks in front of the hotel and firemen inside the hotel. When we asked whether or not there was a fire or other cause for return, the reception staff advised, "If there was something going on, we wouldn't still be here".
The Valet parking is a rip-off. The Wyndam website states the daily valet rate (exclusive of tips) is $17, when we arrived we were advised that the rate had been changed to $25. Luckily, we met another couple in the elevator that advised us that the garage a half block west of the hotel had parking for $12/day. We used that lot and actually were never charged more than $10/day.
We were advised by a hotel associate on the phone that the resturant would be open for Christmas dinner on 12/25. Again, when we checked in we were advised that their would be a continental breakfast but no other meals beyond that. The staff did call another hotel and determine that we could go there for dinner on Christmas.
Basically, this is an old rundown hotel which needs for their parent company to invest in freshing up the entire hotel.
Grand elegance at yesterdays prices
Stayed here June 2001. Although much construction in area, room was quiet. I was given a 2 room suite for the price of std room. The room was large, clean, and nice antique furnishings. It was within walking distance to all downtown sites and restaurants. Will stay here again Summer 02 because once again the prices are about 1/3 of the other nice downtown hotels.

... least, that's what I'll believe). I couldn't hug him enough, and he couldn't try to squirm away enough, but I know he and my mom will have a great time together. I even got photos all during my trip back to Bangor showing just what a great helper he is with my mom. For the next two months, I will have an e-relationship with my cat and can't wait to see him in December! Thanks, mom, for offering up your beautiful home to my Smushy Face!

It wasn't there, then it was windy, then it rained, REALLY HARD, then it was gone!
We finally made it to Maryville University, Met Kellie's roommate, and her boyfriend John. We had a fun evening, but forgot to take anymore photos :-(
... plate and lots of screws (not the souvenir I was planning on) to put everything back together.
