We were really feeling at home in our little area of Wisconsin, the Baraboo hills. But it was time to take our road trip to Door County. With close to 6 hrs of driving we wouldn't be spending too long anywhere today. ... the 'Door' part of it stuck. Wisconsin is quite proud of it's tragic maritime heritage. At each state park there is at least one informational display about a shipwreck off the coast, complete with details of the ship, how it met its end and photos of what wreckage still survives (complete with scuba divers).
It's ironic that such a lovely place has such a calamitous lineage. I don't remember where I ran across mention of Door County when I ...
