Historical Traveler Reviews The Hollis Halifax - A DoubleTree Suites By Hilton

          Great Hotel! Great Breakfast!

Great Hotel! Huge rooms! Great breakfast. Friendly staff. Like 2 other places in NS, I picked this place from tripadvisor reader comments, but only this one exceeded my expectations. Would highly recommend.

I stayed here while in Halifax for business, and it was an EXCELLENT choice in all respects. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the breakfast a great start to the day, the rooms spacious and well appointed. Internet aceess was very affordable and easy using my laptop.

I would recommend the hotel to anyone - business or leisure traveller. A family of 4 would have no problem fitting into one of the very spacious suites (separate lounge room)

Favorite place to to stay in Halifax

The Radisson has the friendliest, most helpful staff of any hotel I have ever stayed in. The location is great. The complimentary continental breakfast provides a nourishing start to the day. The suite is comfortable and spacious. Good value.

          Great Location

The suites are very spacious and well appointed. Try to get a suite on an upper floor and which faces the harbor - the views are great. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and made our stay even more enjoyable. There are free snacks during happy hour and a nice continental breakfast in the morning (included). They also have cookies available throughout the day.

The hotel is located about two short blocks from the waterfront and directly in front of the area where all the "action" is. There is a fairly steep slope up from the water to the upper part of town, so the hotel's close proximity to the water makes returning to the hotel a pleasure compared to the climb that would be needed to get to other main hotels. The hotel is also in easy walking distance from some fantastic restaurants and great night life action. The location could not be better for enjoying the city of Halifax.

The airport shuttle will drop you off and pick you up by the hotel. As will the car rental places (we used Hertz which was had the best rates and was located a few blocks away by the casino).

I highly recommend the Radisson Suites hotel for a comfortable stay in Halifax!

          Great weekend rates

Had a great friday and saturday [16/17 April 2004] stay. Nice large room, very clean, great maid service, good view of harbor. Eastside Marios down stairs is a great place for a meal and beer after a long day travelling.

          Unbelievable value

This hotel is an unbelievable value. The rooms have every convenience; they are extremely spacious (ask for a corner suite - they're the largest); the staff is great; rooms are beautifully appointed; and to top it all off. a complimentary continental breakfast with a large, healthy variety of items. It's the best I've stayed in anywhere.

Great hotel in a great city

I've stayed at this hotel a couple of times and have been very satisfied. The staff is courteous and helpful. The rooms are large and are uniquely shaped - all suites. The pool/fitness area is well-equipped and clean. Internet access was easy. East Side Marios downstairs is convenient. Windows in the centre rooms (102, 202, 302, etc.) are small and don't afford much of a view.

          Great hotel

This is my favourite hotel in Halifax. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are fabulous. For basically the same cost as a hotel room elsewhere, you get a large suite and breakfast. Each room is a little bit unique, but they are all huge, comfortable and well maintained. Breakfast is fun - they turn the bar into a breakfast buffet. A little crowded, but sociable and lots of healthy breakfast choices too. Spring for turn-down service! They leave these yummy locally made florentines and a nip of Bailey's irish cream. Mmmm...

          Room to spare

I just spent two nights in this property and I found the value to be terrific. I enjoy suites, so this one really fit the bill. Plenty of room, hi-speed internet access, attentive staff, valet parking ($17.50/nt!)and a great location.

You need a roadmap to find your way around the suite--it's that big.

Breakfast was great, but you might have to plan around the crowded times. Free breakfasts draw everyone!

          Great Hotel

The friendliest staff, large suites, fantastic service. Stayed for the weekend and loved every minute. Best hotel in Halifax

We left the Silver Dart Lodge just after 9 this morning and filled up with gas just out of town. We had another day of driving ahead as we made our way back to Halifax. We drove for about 2.5 hours and stopped in Truro once again. Wanting to be quick, we ate at a Wendy's and got back on the highway. The highway was busier than usual with many …

... and I started pan frying the halibut (as I do) and then a young couple from Ontario came and set up their tent in the site next to ours. We were quite shocked that our Eden was disturbed. There were probable 35 other sites to pick from and they plunked down right next to us, 50 feet away and in plain view. Griff couldn't help himself, he asked the girl "So, you are really going to set up right here?" The girl answered: “Yes, we have a reservation.” ...

... The Travel Master's failure on the flights was redeemed by the choice of hotel. It was a nice place for Jude to wait out of the rain. We had a catch up and planning session and then a nice sleep in a great bed.

Next morning we wandered around the harbour. Had the required coffee. Got Canadian $$ and were picked up by the Fraserway folk to head out to the depot.

The introduction to the campervan was very well done and very professional. ...

          ... rivers are totally frozen

Lets just hope its not like this in Halifax.

As we fly onwards heading south along the Canadian coast I keep looking at
my watch and am expecting the aircraft to start its decent towards Halifax
airport. 6hr17minutes comes and goes and we are still high up here in the air
with no sign of decending. A few drinks and snacks are brought around by the
kind onboard staff and finally after about 7 or so hours did the aircraft ...

          ... off shall we!

On Thursday night Chris made us all steaks for supper. Most people know I am not much of a steak eater but I have been trying to eat it every once in awhile to see how my body reacts. Chris got me and Sarah nice little steaks and bought mammoth sized steaks for Ben and himself. They were cooked to perfection and I almost even finished mine! We then went out to a very cool bar called "The Middle Spoon". We walked in and ...
