... night and I was asleep but 8.30! Today was a shorter walk with several medium climbs across moors of Heather which is now flowering and really beginning to stand out against the ground. Once again it was dry underfoot, though paving stones much of the way were ******* the feet, particularly after yesterday and unfortunately I have a couple of blisters returning. We had out first glimpses of the North Sea a few times today as we went up and down along the ridges ...
... will offer my critique of those dishes trying to be as impartial as I can.
I know one thing, however, having been assisting in the front of the house for the last few days: the service at Gilpin is much more impeccable and much less pretentious than at the Samling. It was a nice evening with good food, but as you know from other entries in this blog one can obtain good, tasty and fresh food without all the pretense. Stay tuned.
... to get there, oh well, we'd better get our walking feet on then! Left the site and walked the 2 miles or so DOWN into Keswick, out the other side through a few fields into Portinscale, gave a little wave to our cottage and followed the signs to the lake, several miles later we arrived at the bottom of Catbells, skirted around this and onto the waters edge, we weren't really sure where the carving was but soon ...
... lunch we sat on down on a few piles of rocks, which weren't the most comfortable only to find 5 mins further on, a picnic bench!!!!! Spent a lovely afternoon in the sunshine, balancing on logs ( it had to be done) and eventually made our way back to the car. We were going to go back to the site and then go back in to Keswick for chippies but the traffic was soooooo bad we decided just to stop en-route park ...
Up to the sun shining, kids playing! Kettle on full English cooked (well French sausages but the rest was English). Left the site around 11am, our aim today was Walla Crag and around Derwentwater. A steady climb to the top left us a pooped out but the view was worth it, the whole of Keswick lay beneath us, with Derwentwater to our left and Bassenthwaite lakes to our right.
