Historical Traveler Reviews The Barrymore Hotel Tampa Riverwalk

      Run for cover

      from

Past reviews were to kind to this place. Worse place I have ever been to. Dirty rooms. Service bad. This Holiday Inn lost their accredidation with Holiday Inn two weeks ago according to staff. Staff unfriendly. We moved out after just the first night. The whole group that was there for training moved to another hotel and to another facility for the training. The trainer said this was the first for him. Their phone number wasn't even in the yellow pages of the Tampa phone book. There 800 number was disconnected. Need I say more. Do not stay here. We found a better place at half the cost.

      This place is a dump

      from

This place is the worst hotel I have ever been in. The requested king size bed was actually two twin beds pushed together. The room had obvious water damage with peeling paint and damage to the walls. Some wall-paper was removed in a half-hearted repair attempt that resulted in paint splattered on the windows and rugs. The rugs were worn, as was the furniture. The TV reception was terrible and there was no remote control. The bathroom had only one towel. I was charged $7 for parking in an unsupervised lot. The restaurant service was poor and the food over-priced. I will never stay at a Holiday Inn again. Nor should you!

      Absolutely disgusting!

      from

Staff friendly and helpful--hotel is the worst U.S. based hotel I've ever been in. My first room had a brown soiled area that was most likely s***. The floor had small pieces of debres evrywhere, obviously not vacumed. The bathroom had stains (I think they were staines) and a constant drip. The beds looked "slept in". I requested a seperate room.My second room had a clean floor and semi-clean tub, but the bedding was worse than what I let my dog sleep on. I am currently in the lobby and 8 people over 1 hour have requetsed different rooms. This place is disgusting! If negative scores were possible, then the Holiday Inn Tampa-City Centre deserves it. If you care about your family, stay somewhere else.

      Needs lots of work

      from

My husband and I stayed at the Holiday Inn City Centre in Tampa Nov. 12 and 13th. We found the staff to be friendly, helpful and efficient. The shuttle service proved to be very useful and pleasant. BUT.. the physical condition of this hotel leaves lots to be desired. Stepping out of the elevator onto the 9th floor we were greeted by a broken ice machine set against a damaged and unpainted wall. The carpet in the hall was very soiled and stained. The bath in our room was not very clean, the floor tiles stained and the toilet paper holder pulled right out of the wall. We did find the bed comfortable. The "extra touches" we have come to expect from hotels in this range were pretty minimal. There appeared to be some renovation going on but, in all, this hotel needs an update badly.

Don't do it! Don't stay here

      from

Horrible facilities....water was leaking into our room apparently from the room on the floor above us. The bed was broken and actually fell on the floor when I sat on the side of it. The bathroom was filthy. I could hear every work spoken in the rooms next to ours. Apparently those rooms were smoking rooms as our room was amost unbearable with the stinch of a still unidentified smoke. The only high point was the staff who were were semi friendly. I also witnessed students from the local University living there. You would be more confortable sleeping on the street corner than at this location.

      This hotel is the pits!!!

      from

I stayed at the Holiday Inn on Fortune Street in Tampa during the week of August 10, 2003. First of all, they didn't give us enough confirmation numbers over the phone, so our reservation was lost. When we got there, the first room was mildew smelling and no fridge (we had a diabetic staying with us that required refridgerated insulin). They gave us another room, but someone had actually stole the fridge! The third room was still kind of stinky, but at least it had a fridge. The rugs are worn out and soiled looking. The beds are uncomfortable and there are leak stains all over the walls and ceilings of the hotel.

This is not a sanitary place to stay at. My daughter is an asthmatic and I prayed during the 5 nights we stayed there. By the way - we couln't check into another hotel because they were all "booked". By the time my convention found us another place to stay - it was too late.

I'm officially sending a letter to the head of the hotel chain....

A week with my room and 3 other people in it

      from

I had the chance to spend a week in the hotel the spring before last. My club (rowing) used to travel down to FLA to row along the canal that borders (beautifully) the hotel and better part of downtown Tampa. The room was comfortable ...large TV, comfortable climate control, comfy beds (despite sharing it with another male rower) and well kept (maid service) bathrooms. On the subject of maids- they didnt steal from us. We probably gave ample oppertunity, but never lost anything. Maybe just luck...

We ate at the hotel restaurants (and catering) every day. I highly reccomend the Calzone from "Perkys Pizza" and the pasta from Andre, the pasta cook in "The Restaurant". Things mightve changed though...

The workout room facility was very small, cramped, and humid...not comfortable at all. Laundry facilities were all but non existant (2 sets washer and dryer at max) But the elevators are quite safe! (we used them at least 10x a day) The staff and management were very curtious, and I never felt particularly threatened when in the lobby late at night. Thats all!

      These are dorms!!!!

      from

Horrible! These are the dorms for the University of Tampa and unless you are wanting to live among floors of fraternities and drunkeness, don't stay here. They also have a huge water/leak problem. My husband got sick and we had to check out at 1am.

      Stinky!

      from

If you're only staying for a weekend you should be okay with this hotel. The people are very friendly and help with any needs you might have. On the other hand if you are staying longer, I highly suggest another place. The third floor of this hotel has a strange smell lingering from it. Even though there have been complaints, the cause is still unknown. Sometimes the water is even brown, but that could be flushed out. The stench is somewhat of a sewage smell, or moldy smell, either which could possibly be hazardous if kept around long term. What they don't tell you is that college students from the university live there and if you want some quiet stay away. My advise for this hotel: If they don't get the problem fixed, stay away!

      Beds worn out

      from

We stayed at the Holiday Inn express on Fortune Street in February 2002. The beds were completely shot. It ruined my trip to FL. I'm a healthy fellow, athlete, gym 3x per week, but now I'm headed to the Chiropractor.

      St. Pete's Beach, Fl

... just outside of Pensacola. If we thought St. Pete's Beach was quiet, Navarre was even more subdued! Luckily, it's Super Bowl weekend, so we found our own entertainment at the bar next door to the hotel. With the likely name of "Helen Back," we figured this was the place to have a good time--and we did! They had a giant big projection tv, so we placed ourselves right in front of it to watch the Super Bowl. Wasn't that a great game? We ...

... We headed back into Orlando as we had a dinner reservation at Sanaa for 8:45 at Kidani Village at the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort. This has to be our all-time favourite resort on property. The theming is so well done, it truly makes one feel as if they are on safari in Africa. We were seated at our table within a few minutes of arriving. We ordered a naan bread appetizer which included a variety of ten different dipping sauces. They ranged from ...

So it's Friday evening and we're getting ready to head further south. Packing up. We've had a great few days since I last wrote. On Tuesday we drove to the end of the road, down to Pass-a-Grille. Wondered through the shops, then bought some fresh Grouper that we bbq'd for supper. Oh, it was good. On Wednesday Barb and I headed in to St Pete's ...

While standing on a bridge waiting for Reuben and Alex to come down a log flume ride called Tidal Wave, the crinkly adults were pleased to hear a regular visitor yakking about how busy the place was in summer, when the temperature soars and humidity hits 90, and the queues go on for miles. After a good lunch at the ...

Best Looking girls: (1a) Switzerland and (1b) Germany Another tie! Switzerland has the best girls because they were a mix of French and German. But, Germany has really cute girls everywhere. Obviously, every country had really cute girls but I had to narrow it down. This category was the last one I filled ...
