What A Price For A Very Nice Room

We're not big fans of huge resort hotels, but we booked this room using the iPhone Hotel Tonight app and got a beautiful King Suite - a huge room, windows on two sides overlooking the boardwalk and the ocean. We booked it on the same day that we arrived for the whopping rate of $49 (plus taxes)!!

I don't know if the accolades should be directed at the hotel or at Hotel Tonight -- probably both! The hotel deserves the credit for charging us only $5 for parking (free would be nice, but is unheard of, I think, at these sorts of hotel/resorts).

The happiest creatures here were the birds and Stephen and I spent some time watching their breakfasting antics. Seafood was definitely on the menu! The seagulls-which are twice the size of Aussie seagulls- would get a clam from the ocean, fly up with it and then drop it from a height, before descending directly down like a parachute ...

... 8220;South African girls’ brunch” was organised by Sarina through the Meet-up website. I think the staff got a bit confused when we arrived individually and said we were meeting friends but didn’t know what they looked like! It was great to speak a bit of Afrikaans, eat some vetkoek stuffed with curry and I stocked up on some biltong, droewors, dried guava fruitroll and an Inside Story from their shop section – yum! Karen has been living in the US ...

... Brewing Company for some great beer (and found out about the beer stamps!). A generous amount for $7.00 per person. We bought some other beer here as well. Along the way north we stopped at Lincoln Peak Vineyard for some good wine and forgot our stamp so I just penned it in myself. This was also the day we worked our way to Fresh Tracks Farm and Winery, our third winery of the day. This was also very good. We bought wine at both wineries. It ...

Atlantic City weekends

I made two trips to Atlantic City while a cadet, at the end of cow and then firstie years. Cow year was post-TEE leave, when a group of Gups (Frank, Mikey, Luke et al.) rented a house near the beach. Despite some unmentionable moments (Scarlett Johansson, anyone?) we had a lot of fun and were able to enjoy some relaxing time together before CLDT and breaking up for the summer. A year later, ...
