Traveled to Killybegs and the Glencomlcille region today. Killybegs was formerly a major fishing port but due to the economics of fishing and the EU has a smaller presence in the fishing industry. Saturday 10/19 -- hard to believe I've been gone an entire week. Today we traveled to Sligo, where W. B. Yeats spent summers in his childhood and whom the town continues to claim as its own. They have a lovely statute of him -- a modern rendering where he is covered in his own words -- and a Yeats Society in a building which formerly housed a Bank of England. Bram Stoker's mother also came from Sligo and apparently he spent time there also. ...

... we could find open. We had to get Northern Ireland pounds out and we we're now driving in miles which was a little confusing. Rod did however manage to find a few more really skinny streets to take us up, so well worth it. There must have been an Irish dancing competition as there were heaps of girls all dressed up with the fancy wigs on. I would have tried to see it but I was voted out by the boys. Anyway not a terribly interesting day so ...
