What a wonderful hotel!

I am in the middle of an eight week stay in the hotel for business reasons. The owners, Jennie and Iain, could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The rooms are individual, clean and warm - they have hairdryers, TV, etc. The breakfasts are wonderful - a great start to the day. A dip in the heated pool is a good start to each evening, followed by a drink in the cozy bar! The car park is small but every effort is made to fit everyone in and in 6 weeks I have not had a problem parking there. All the staff are helpful and friendly. This hotel is a real find and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The Best English Cooked Breakfast Ever!!!!

My friends and I recently stayed at the Thanington Hotel on a very cold weekend in February, but I have to say staying at the Thanington was a pleasure. The hotel was ideally situated, just 15 mins walk from the city centre. The rooms were all individual, extremely comfortable and clean. But most of all the staff were fantastic, from a warm friendly service, to exciting adventure stories, but best of all was the "best english cooked breakfast we,ve all had in ages. The hotel is small, but cozy. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a home away from home.

Avoid the front rooms

Avoid the front rooms in the main house. Main road is VERY noisy until mid-night & then from 6am.

Best stay in annexe at back of car park, but still have to kep windows closed if you want peace and quiet. Car park itself is cramped. Not for those who value their bodywork. Rooms immaculate.

A nice place to stay

This is a good hotel with friendly, well informed staff and old world charm. The manager was quick to recomend restaurants etc. The Pool was pretty nice. My only criticism would be that if you are thinking of arriving in an estate vehicle, think again as the car park is on the small side. We stayed in room 14 (4 poster) which was a decent size and the decor was really quite interesting. Alot of busy bright floral pattern everywhere, which is nice if you like that kind of thing. Kind of like staying at your nans house for the night. Breakfast was ok, no baked beans though - boo! A good choice of everything else you would expect though.

An Absolute Must !!!!!

Most welcoming hotel we have been to in the UK by far. From the moment we got there we were made to feel at home. We were really well informed. Given places to visit, restaurants to go to etc etc etc.....Very clean. Bedrooms were excellent. Big and stylish. Good breakfast. Really tasty. Lovely little courtyard and swimming pool. Incredibly relaxing. Location was just about right. Easy to get to from the A2 and easy to get into Canterbury (which is just beautiful with the friendliest people). More than anything it was just so welcoming. Not at all overbearing like some hotels. Great company in the bar and after breakfast. They really took time out to make our stay really special.................and we were only there one night. Would certainly go back again. An absolute must!!!!

Great Hotel

We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions and will be staying again soon.

The hotel is lovely and the staff are extremely efficient and friendly. The breakfast is A1 and we have recommended the hotel to friends.

Terrible Service

Booked this place on the 2nd April for the weekend of the 17th July via the internet. Just received an answerphone message on the 4th June - 2 months later saying they are double booked that weekend - no apologies, no alternative hotel arrangements nothing.

I was travelling down from Scotland for the Pavarotti convert - now I am left to find last minute alternative accomodation on one of the busiest weekends of the year. Not impressed.

Avoid like the plague.

Fantastic Hotel!!

We recently stayed at Thanington Hotel and absolutely loved it. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to help us with directions, sight-seeing and local restaurants. My personal favourite was the swimming pool, it was lovely and warm and overlooked a private courtyard garden. We would recommend anyone to to visit!

Not great

The view of the hotel on the internet which advertisted it was very deceptive as its situated on the busy and noisy A28 going into Cantenbury and not a peacefull tranquill location as described.Trying to park the car was a nightmare as the carpark is tiny and after several juggiling of cars they eventually fitted us in.Checking in was ok until we got to our room which was small on the ground floor at the back of the hotel where most of the rooms seem to be, on two levels.Our room was beneath a stairs so you could here the racket of people moving about all night.The Bed was the worst we have ever slepth in not comfortable and smaller than a double which we requested.The bathroom was prehistoric there was no shower just a bath with one of those telescopic shower hoses fitted to the bath taps and then no shower curtain in this day and age its unexceptable.Needless to say we didnt hang around for the evening and made our way into cantebury which is a 10 minute walk at least. The door lock on the room was rubbish a little shove would have knocked it in so we took all our valuables with us you never no these days. After a restless night in that bed we got up for the earliest weekend breakfast ever finishes 9.30am on the weekends what about the lie in, sorry you dont get any here as they expect you to have vacated your room by 10.30am.The breakfast was average but on a posotive note tasty so that was something.Anyway we left 75 quid poorer and left wondering was it money well spent think not.Go somewhere else and use this place as a last resort.

Wonderful Stay

The moment we first got to the Thanington it was great. The staff were really friendly, the manager was very polite and an all round good person. The waiting staff were very good and were very impressive!

Overall it was a brilliant stay!!! The rooms are great, ensuite and very tidy. The facilities were also very good. The food was brilliant with a a wide variety for all. The hotel was above standards and exeptionally clean. I would definately go again!!!!
