Ok so we were getting our big train journey up to Danang. It all went very smooth. Free taxi to the station, straight onto the train, arrived in Danang in the morning, got off the train and straight into a taxi to take us to our real destination of Hoi An about an hour away. Hoi An is the tailor capital of Vietnam and the main reason for coming here for tourists is to buy clothes. And thats what we intended to do. Got a hotel called the Thien Binh No 2. Loads of hotels in cities of Vietnam ha...

Moving off to Hoi An after visiting marble mountain at Da Nang and staying there for 2 nights. Renting bike on the next morning to go to Hai Van Pass. Visiting My Son ruin on the last morning before transiting to Hue.
Hoi An, Vietnam hongwei.tanWe took the route less traveled to enter Vietnam from Northeastern Cambodia. The border cross in Yadow is a relatively new one and it took us a full day of travel just to get to a "real town" in Vietnam. Once we arrived in the small city of Pleiku, we realized no one spoke a word of English and there were no foreigners or tourists in sight. The barely-adequate listing of "useful Vietnamese phrases" in the back of our guide book helped buy us lunch, but we needed more than that to get us out o...
Hoi An, Vietnam joelandesWell, i think we finally got ripped off on this bus journey! We paid 15dollars (a lot for vietnam) for what we were told was the luxury tourist bus (not!), it was a minibus with as usual no space whatsoever to put your feet, however on this occasion they had already filled the bus with boxes upon boxes of wet wipes, so your feet were literally in the air. That i could cope with until they filled the bus with so many people that me and matt were sharing one seat with our legs up in the air, th...
Hoi An, Vietnam josephinelong88Hello everyone, it's been a long time writing and i will work my way backwards from today to when i last left the blog 3 weeks ago in Thailand. I have since traveled through Laos for about 10 days which is in between Thailand and Vietnam. I am currently in Hoi An, Vietnam. It's pretty much in the center of Vietnam and i am working my way to Saigon (also known now as Ho CHi Min City). The Tet holiday is 2 days away. It is Christmas and New Years rolled into one 10 day holdia with 3 super big d...
Hoi An, Vietnam mkaraoglanGot to Hoi An and straight away felt at home and relaxed in the place. Louise did a great job getting the best hotel yet - felt like a proper holiday for the first time in 8 weeks, nice big room, hot water, comfortable bed...and yes there was even a swimming pool...all for the princely sum of $15 a night - bargain. Hoi An is really small, it escaped all bombing during the French and American wars and for some reason has become a mecca for westerners who want to get tailor made clothing. It al...
Hoi An, Vietnam sheerin09... It is really quite pretty, Mark is loving the architecture, we will put some pics up when we can. We have had a walk around town, watched people get on and off the local boat to go down the river, bikes and all. The markets are a feast for the eyes, fruits, fresh herbs, vegetables, t-shirts, lots of silk scarves, hats, trinkets and heaps of other stuff.
We will be here for a couple of days before we fly up to Hanoi (so we can get to ...
We awoke to Hoi An, very excited to a. explore the town but more importantly b. BUY LOTS OF THINGS, as Hoi An is the tailoring central of Vietnam. The morning was spent watching a traditional Vietnamese singing performance. It was lovely in some parts, but just plain weird in others. The Vietnamese have very nasally voices so it sometimes sounded slightly reminiscent of a cat wailing, but to give them due credit a lot of it was very lovely, and the ...
