... smaller group, though I think I had a slight ulterior motive. <br><br>Today we are heading to the ferry to where the real journey begins and we ascend onto the African continent. I am so excited! Though I did prepare, I enjoyed my last hot shower immensely before leaving the camp ground in Spain. All in all it seems like a great group of people but 43 weeks with anyone is *************e such multi cultural groups like this. It should be really amazing.
Gibraltar, Gibraltar lenahoff... I saw a bullfight my first week here and it really wasn't my cup of tea, but it was interesting to be where all the action takes place. I then proceeded to go exploring on my own, which I actually do quite frequently. I love people but I find I really enjoy some things better when I make my own experience not surrounded by what everyone else wants to do. I started by going down into the Ronda Gorge, which literally looks like a city built on a cliff. It is just ...
Granada, Gibraltar debdeb80... turn right for Spain and left for Gibraltar. The overland crew were at the airport to greet us and escort us to our nearby campsite in Spain. There were several other members of the group there and it wasn't long before the tents were up and several of us were at the nearby bar drinking copious amounts of the local rum. The Spanish version of a nip of rum is about 3 times more than I am used to. The ...
Gibraltar, Gibraltar bradmccartneySince I missed a couple of days, I've booked some ship tours at upcoming ports. Today was Gibraltar, and I chose the tour for history nerds, "Gibraltar Under Siege." Our guide was amazing, a British ex-pat who is passionate about Gibraltar history. Gibraltar is between Spain and Morocco, but it has been a colony of Great Britain since the Treaty of Utrecht in the 18th century. It's not an island, as most people think (and as I thought). About 28,000 ...
Gibraltar, Gibraltar drteeGibraltar is truly one of the most unique places I've ever been. It is a British Territory (some argue that it is a colony; others argue fiercely that it is not) that covers a tiny isthmus on Spain's southern coast. The whole territory is only 11 times the size of Washington D.C.'s mall, and the majority of it is the giant Rock of Gibraltar, famed since ancient times, which looms over the Straits. We got there, crossing the passport checkpoint and ...
Estepona, Spain saeed.dabestani... on the sinuses and our best pairs of hiking flip-flops, we were ready for a trek back down, via some of the rockside sights. Nothing is close by unfortunately. To the left as you head down is St Michael's Cave, apparently inhabited since the iron age (and more recently by a Saint it seems), whilst to the right there is ...
Tarifa n', Gibraltar technotrekker... and spent the night in a crummy pension there, ironically for much less money than we had been spending on accomodation. It was probably better that we didn't even try to get a ferry that night for Morocco, but instead went the next day. So, all in all, the little country of a thousand self-proclamations was a pretty eventful stop on our dash out of Europe. And, in case you're wondering, we did make it to Morocco--but that's a whole other story...
Gibraltar, Gibraltar traveeseWe've driven along the coast and the landscape has suddenly changed! Gone are the grey beaches of the med and we now have the golden beaches of the atlantic with a huge rock separating - it's an odd sort of place this! And with Vultures circling to boot! Whoever said Spain is sunny and warm in winter was lying - it's been torrential rain for the past few days, terrible - but still better than work!
