Hue- The imperial capital.

Now, a little about Hue, imperial capital of the Nguyen dynasty(that may only interest a select few) also a sight of bitter fighting during the American war. Although it may be one f the main tourist hotspots if i was an adviser I would suggest a day trip, or if you really like strolling in ruins maybe a couple of days. Dosent sound much but I lost my pedometer and that really ****** me off, I have been counting the steps since hk and was hoping to be able to end with the sentence, 'After 200...

HUE A NEW DAY

The breakfast at the hotel is great, lots of fruit, warm buns, cheese, ham, eggs cooked any way you like, juice, yogurt, very good banana spring rolls and hot noodles and vegetables if you would like. We then checked out. I was asked where we were going next, I told the young man to a new hotel and he asked why. I said you gave us room 39 that is wet and smelly, if you would have given us 45 in the first place we would have stayed. He said something about 39 to We took a taxi to the newer hot...

Surfing H.U.E

Heading from Hanoi to Nha Trang and Dalat we were forced to skip Hue. Hue is one of the highlights of any trip to Vietnam. It was the seat of the Nguyen empire and the emperors built an extravagant palace complex in an area called the Citadel. The old quarter is located just across the idyllically named Perfume River that separates it from the restaurants and hotels of the tourist center. I say "remnants" because this area, located just over 100 km north of Danang in case that rings any bells...

Moving off to Hue and visiting Bach Ma national park. Stayed for 2 nights and meet some fellow travelers from Japan, ROC and England. Beer Hue is really cheap and nice.

Demilitarized Zone

Today was an early wakeup to get up, have breakfast (so many people just watching us eat - we get it, we're westerners and we have kids! get over it and let us eat in peace/piece!), check out of our hotel (waste of money!) and head to the DMZ Cafe to begin our private tour of the Demilitarized Zone of the Vietnam (or, as it's known here, American) War. Another dreary, miserable, rainy day in Dong Ha. We got into our car which had tinted rear windows (hard to sightsee!) - we forgot to tell you...

Cyclos, KFC and The Imperial Palace

Today started off with a thud. Unfortunately that thud was Ophelia falling out of bed onto the hard tiles. After many screams and even more Mummy hugs, we all sat in bed cuddled up watching some cartoons. We made our way down to breakfast and met up with two cyclo drivers we had met last night (they gave us a free ride home to ensure we would use them the next day to get around). Unfortunately it was raining quite a bit so the ride, although fun, was rather wet. We were dropped off at the Imp...

Blind Massages and Walking Blindly

This morning we woke up ready for another terrific day in Hue. We were pleased to see that it wasn't raining (just very dark!) and, thus charged, we went down for breakfast in the hotel restaurant. I don't really like to complain all that much, but the restaurant here is terrible. The food isn't bad (when you finally get it) but the service is absolutely atrocious. You have to ask for one thing at a time otherwise you'll never get anything... plus they are reconditioning the kitchen so you ca...

Cooking Lessons and Bruised Limbs

We got off to an early start as we were being picked up by taxi at 8:30 for our cooking class. Upon arriving at Missy Moo the kids were both quickly swept up and taken away. We joined three others (two women from Denmark and one from China) in another taxi ride, this time to the Dong Ba market. We walked around with our guide and searched for the ingredients for our recipes. The market has to be Jaymz and my favourite place, it is so colourful, smelly and alive. I took photo after photo of ra...

Hue - Central Vietnam

We both had an awesome time in Hue. We went out with the group the other night and got smashed! I ended up phoning my Mum & Dad for about 10 mins from my mobile. Unfortunately, I was that drunk I cannot really remember any dialogue! Our whole group was very hungover yesterday. We are blaming dodgy ice cubes but I suspect that it was due to the quality and volume of alcohol consumed. I, myself, was not sick however had a period of toilet bowel hugging post conversation to parents. On a positiv...

To Hue.

Reached Hue at 4.30pm... Met a Japanese guy called Naoki. He was really friendly and we chatted some. Had dinner at Cafe on Thu Wheels. Strongly Recommended! Next day, on the 26th, we headed for Bach Ma National Park, but not before we took some pics at Hue Citadel. This was made possible by our guides at Cafe on Thu Wheels. It was here that we visited 5 Lakes Waterfalls and Rhododendron Falls. Swam at the 5 lakes, but not the 300m high(supposedly) Rhododendron! Got attacked by leeches though...
