... stop scanning. Well, I don't completely stop. I'm always scanning. But I scan less intently as I drive to the trailhead. Today it will be the Phelps Lake loop. Getting into this trail brings me onto the Laurence Rockefeller Preserve. Twenty minutes down a narrow dirt road there is a fittingly understated sign indicating the driveway to the Preserve. A National Park Ranger greets me at the entrance to this super small parking lot. Only thirty cars are allowed in the preserve at ...

... and that wiled away an hour or two. And then something magical happened - light rain! We had been woken up by one majestic lightning storm so far, but had been under nothing but blazing melt-me-into-the-nearest-bar sun so far. Glorious. Now we are in Jackson, Wyoming having spent a night in the Marriott (don't judge us - it had a gym!). The road here from the east was utterly spectacular as you can see in the images. ... We were going to like it here!

Before checking into our Airbnb literally 1 minute from town, we first couldn’t resist parking up to look around this wonderful town soaked in history, have a drink in a very unique Saloon Bar and to watch the daily shoot-out in the street!

This was a bustling place, full of gift shops, galleries, horse pulled wagons and genuine cowboys ...

... and outdoor activity town. Passed the National Elk Reserve going north - you can do sleigh rides there in winter!

Arrived at Grand Teton NP. Daughter-in-law Sara's favourite USA park.

This park has rolling meadows on the one side, supposedly full of elk, and the Teton Mountains on the other. Mountain rise from the valley floor with no foothills. An enormous U-shaped glaciated valley. Level ...

... weather in Yellowstone changed dramatically during the day. I was putting sun cream on as we watched Old Faithful erupt, we saw a massive thunder and lightening storm, saw 3 rainbows at the same time and got pelted with raindrops that felt like lead at one point. It was worth getting soaked in the rain to see some of it, it also scared a lot of the tourists away.

We had a 10 hour drive to Vegas that was very tough. At one stop I went into the petrol station to buy ...
