Calle de la Playa San Antonio Palopo, Lake Atitlan, Western Highlands, Guatemala, 07012, 502-762-0157
last night we went to san antonio for a get-away. what a beautiful place. it is a small town built in to the side of the hill....very steep climbing! we walked around town then sat on our terrace and had dinner and watched the sun set over lake atitlan. we had a guest at dinner...cristobal, the man that makes the ceramics for our fair trade sales. what a great guy! mary woke all of us very early to watch the sun rise over lake atitlan. it was worth it! after breakfast we went to mass and made...
San Antonio Palopo, Guatemala sisterparish... it was cool to get a glimpse of what his tour would have been like and to see him kind of ¨normal¨(I use that term loosely) in a an everyday setting. I ordered Pho but it was nothing like Mekong, let me tell you! Man I´m craving that right now....

The next day we planned a day trip to Panajachel, which is a town just across the lake via an hour boat ride. It´s a bit bigger and thus more touristy, but we were in the mood to shop so we went for it. After walking ...
San Pedro La Laguna, Western Highlands, Guatemala jeridolp... As i was thinking this to myself, across the valley there are another 3 volcanoes, one of which is active, and today decided to cough a plume of volcanic ash into the air probably 200 meters high...
OK, so we left the creation of mother earth to the belly of the planet and bolted back to the safety of the city.
Worth noting, at the base of the hill there is a conveniently located shop/cafe/bar and i have to admit that i let the side down ...
San Marcos La Laguna, Sololá, Guatemala huntjodyThe past few days have been hard, but great, and we are getting ready
to leave San Pedro on Saturday. Probably our favorite thing while we've
been here has been just sitting around and chatting with Maria. It's
been great practice for us to chat in Spanish, and it's also been great
fun trying to explain various things to her... prom, football
(americano), and Halloween - Susan drew a pic of a pumpkin and a ghost,
but it didn't really help (shocker). We thanked her ...
San Pedro De La Laguna, Sololá, Guatemala namaste32... it rained a lot. Upon arriving in Antigua, the city seemed very dark to me until I discovered that all electricity had gone. Naturally, I still managed to find my place, although it was somewhat difficult navigating in the dark. The electricity came backaround 20:30 after having been gone for 2 hours. So now I've tried to do my homework by candlelight!

All in all, it was just a great weekend at a beautiful place, and a great way to spend the weekend!
Santa Cruz La Laguna, Western Highlands, Guatemala chrisser71... be in a rundown pool hall decorated with Italian themed maps and posters run by a gay couple with a taste for mid 90s rock and that my night would have ended gathered around a karaoke microphone belting out Radiohead and Hotel California with a random sampling of the world´s gringos. It really wasn´t my plan...funny how things are working out.

Nice as that all is, hopefully I will be back in the sticks soon.
Xela, Quetzaltenango, Guatemala katywade... apparently, I totally failed not to giggle when I fell over several times trying to be a ‘dancing tree’ The tranquillity was ruined slightly by the constant buzzing of mosquitos in my ears and the necessity to swat said winged beasts. And also it hurt! A lot! Maybe it’s really a pastime for waifish dutch girls who shun europe to live (a no doubt vegan) lifestyle as a hostel owner on lake Aititlan. Not for slightly overweight English girls who ...
San Pedro La Laguna, Western Highlands, Guatemala sarahelective... with all the group, chilling, shrooming and eating a huge roast dinner, I moved into another hostel and into a double room with private bathroom – okay the bathroom is a toilet with a shower overhead so you can **** and shower at the same time (if you so desire) – brilliant!! But I don’t have to share it and I have access to a lovely terrace that overlooks the lake and is a fantastic place to write this blog, stretch out my aching limbs and contemplate how lucky my life is.
San Pedro La Laguna, Sololá, Guatemala hess... surprise to see that at the bottoms of the altar there is the representation of Maximon....it seems that for a time it was accepted for the Maximon image to be inside the catholic church.

As we walked through the market and bought some interesting things, our guide explained that the purple color is the color of Santiago. They make their own clothes. Each town is represented with a color and if someone lives in that town must wear that color, so it'll be idenfied ...
Santiago Atitlán, Sololá, Guatemala jaribg... to talk to the staff of the hotel who
recomended us some places to visit and also told us very interesting
stories and how the lake changes everyone's life! I could feel that
sine the moment i got there.

San Pedro has a party environment but different than Antigua. It feels much more relaxing and the fact of seeing the lake all the time makes it feels as if it was the beach. We're expecting to go to some bars tonight.
