Kingston, Saint Andrew, Jamaica kevinpintoJamaica was my very first missions trip. I went with Shayna and Chad for one week and we had an amazing and eye opening experience. The water was beautiful and we went to ocho rios and climbed the waterfal too-it was so beautiful! We also witnessed poverty and need in ways that we had never seen before. We were able to minister God's love to people but honestly I think we all took away much more from this experience than we could ever give!
Kingston, Jamaica heatherketcherYesterday my family had a birthday party for there now 3 year old grand daughter! talk about a party they had a moon bounce with an alligator mouth for an entrance. Hellshire, Jamaica phantom1212... open Scott read the paper. The flight from Florida was just beautiful. It was a very clear day so we had no trouble seeing the gorgeous landscape as we landed in KIngston. We were a bit apprehensive about the bus ride to the resort because of all the negative things we'd been told about how long it is but once we got in the van our driver made us very comfortable and we were on our way. i took a lot of pictures on the way west along the coastline, mostly of the ...
Kingston, Jamaica luckylady611I got a ride from the airport to the upper town. After check in, I ventured in the city and was soon offered some "stuff". Oh well, no thank you. The Bob Marley museum is quite interesting and probably the only notable attraction in Kingston (other than this feeling of being in a different country).
Kingston, Jamaica gratien... Maybe not. VOTING FROM DA ISLAND: Our crew gathered for the first debate between Obama and McCain recently. Though a frustrating experience (as was to be expected), it was a lot of fun coupled with Red Stripe and popcorn. Beyond the presidential nominees and the national bail-out, the propositions on the table (involving the more ethical treatment of farm animals, abortion, renewable energy requirements, gay rights) are extremely important. It is a very exciting ...
Kingston, Jamaica smiling_nomad... That said, because of the amount of rain, the storm is noted as a hurricane here. Regardless if it isn't deemed as such by meteorologists, to Jamaicans, it was a hurricane. I went to my first movie in the country a couple of days after the storm. The ticket counter sign indicated that seats for the film "The Dark Knight" were $500. Though we knew that the price was in Jamaican dollars (and that the equivalent price in US dollars was about $7.50), it was ...
Kingston, Jamaica smiling_nomadHey Everyone, Back on Jamacia's Labor Day, May 23, my Green Club had a Labor Day Project to fix-up the vegetable garden at the school. Labor Day is one of the only days that people in the community work for free so I put the men, women and my Green Club kids to work. These are pictures from that day. Hope you enjoy. Claudia
Kingston, Jamaica teamclaudia... that cover the vast hillsides. We were shown the grinding equipment and how the coffee is graded. Harvest takes place from May through July. Once the beans are picked, the fruit is separated from the bean, the hulls are removed and the beans are roasted. They had several types of coffee available for sale, their specialty being "peabody". We were served samples of the coffee (which I, not being a coffee drinker, foisted on Martin who didn't mind in the ...
Kingston, Jamaica kimandmartin... with three Franciscans, the choir played many old favorites from back home. Over the five days, we visited with a few Peace Corps friends and made some good contacts there as well. We arrived back in Ewarton with sand in our shoes and wide smiles as testimony of a trip well-traveled. New Year's Eve, Rogean walked about four miles up the other side of Ewarton to visit a family of six living in one room of a house that was abandoned several years, half-finished. Without floors ...
