... a lovely area for families that includes a small bird zoo; African geese, a parrot (who tried to eat the fingers unwittingly offered through the chain link), peacocks and ducks. There is also a collection of deer which made the cutest noises, unlike the African geese who threw a fit whether you came near or walked away.

Angra do Heroismo, a city with formidable history that sets the scene for the beautiful stories lived there now.

... and discover that they both live in Montreal, although they were both born on Sao Miguel. Luis has a house (he rents as well) in Rabo de Peixe, while Roberto lives in Caloura. We get some good suggestions on things to see locally and are supposed to call Roberto tomorrow to see his town on our way back from Furnas. We'll see, Roberto was well 'into his cups', so he may not remember the conversation! Anyway, it's a nice end to the night and we head back home to Vivenda ...

... for photos in the rain. Time for a short swim upon returning to the hotel, and ready for our final group dinner with our tour leaders. My special gift to Rui, from the tourist board is a necklace with a telescope. He admired it the whole day and told me a story about how he had one growing up and how precious it was to him. Photographed with him wearing the necklace. He was very ...

... I was somewhat late getting into bed this morning and despite many a farewell drink spent most of the night sleeping inside what I thought was a drum, at least that’s what it sounded like. The continual pounding of the ship as it first rides up the wave and then comes down with a resounding boom which can be heard through the ship on average once every 45 seconds doesn’t do much for a decent night’s sleep. ...

... there as fast as I could. In the back of my mind all I could think about was, "No one knows where I am. I am in a car that does not belong to me. The last thing I need is to run into a couple of bulls on their own turf!" As I sped out of there, it really didn't seem to matter how beautiful and peaceful the night sky was anymore!

Just another one of those stories that are funny now . . . but I guarantee you - it was certainly not funny then! ...
