    Furnas day trip.

    ... the food did not look great being served without gravy but it tasted wonderful. You can't beat slow cooked meat for flavour and we had a very interesting chat with the other people on the trip. There was a lovely couple from Holland and a Hong Kong Chinese lady from Canada travelling with two young kids. After lunch we had a walking tour through the mud and boiling water pools in the centre of town. It was very active and interesting and rather worryingly a change in activity ...

    ... a lovely area for families that includes a small bird zoo; African geese, a parrot (who tried to eat the fingers unwittingly offered through the chain link), peacocks and ducks. There is also a collection of deer which made the cutest noises, unlike the African geese who threw a fit whether you came near or walked away.

    Angra do Heroismo, a city with formidable history that sets the scene for the beautiful stories lived there now.

    ... and discover that they both live in Montreal, although they were both born on Sao Miguel. Luis has a house (he rents as well) in Rabo de Peixe, while Roberto lives in Caloura. We get some good suggestions on things to see locally and are supposed to call Roberto tomorrow to see his town on our way back from Furnas. We'll see, Roberto was well 'into his cups', so he may not remember the conversation! Anyway, it's a nice end to the night and we head back home to Vivenda ...

    ... there as fast as I could. In the back of my mind all I could think about was, "No one knows where I am. I am in a car that does not belong to me. The last thing I need is to run into a couple of bulls on their own turf!" As I sped out of there, it really didn't seem to matter how beautiful and peaceful the night sky was anymore!
