Road No.3, Svay Poo Commune Battambang, Cambodia
Left Siem Riep for Battembang on a very bumby bus ride on the " dancing road" . I love the way the Asians make things sound romantic, like the hills were created by assending dragons etc.. The reality is the road was not a road it was a dirt track and the driver did an amazing job of keeping the bus out of the huge craters........and sadly according to Rich Dragons dont make mountains = Kill Joy! Battembang is a one horse town and the horse has bolted. It's what a Cambodian "town" looks like ...
Battambang, Cambodia easton-martinTraveling from Siem Reap to Bangkok we made an over night stop in Battambang. To get there we had to travel on the infamous 'dancing road'. The concrete road has been 'under construction' for about 10 years. In it's place there is a dirt track which, when it rains, becomes one big sludgy puddle. Throw into the mix loads of scooters with various farm yard animals on the back (i do not exaggerate - live chickens, live pigs) and you have a 6 hour rollercoaster ride. No one read, listened to musi...

... temple (a very small version of Angkor Wat, with 358 steps leading to the top); the Khmer Rouge’s “killing cave,” old artillery left over from the civil war of the 1980’s, and lots of beautiful countryside (check out the pictures for more info).
That night we went to Phare Penlau Selpak, a school that began originally in a refugee camp in Thailand. Its purpose back then was to teach art skills to ...
... it is a small engine in a bamboo mat with wheels and the local people use it for getting them and their stuff from A-B. Some nearby villages have no road access so this train acts as an important part of their daily lives and a tourist sight. There is only one track so if you are bombing along and you meet an other train you have to quickly get off, dismantle the train and get back on again! All good fun and it's good seeing the money you hand over go directly to the ...
Battambang, Cambodia vanessa5694... bit of fun and went on a bamboo train also known by the locals as a nori.
The train is formed by two sets of railway wheels, a bamboo mat and a small cc engine. We watched excitedly as our train was put together then we loaded on the motorbikes and off we went. It was quite a bumpy run but we both loved it. About 20 minutes into our journey we came across another bamboo train that was ...
Battambang, Cambodia jslabbee... was one of their first Asian meal experiences. Brilliant! After breakfast we got a tuc-tuc out to the outskirts of the town to the old railway tracks. In the olden days, or before the war there was a railway line which ran all the way from the Thai border to the Vietnamese and to the south coast, the upkeeping of national railways slipped in the priority list somewhat in the last 30 years and now the only vehicles to ply these routes are heavy goods trains which move at ...
Battambang, Cambodia dolly_would...... garage with fish lying on a concrete floor. This stuff was grey and gross and I've eaten it. Some times it's best not to know. Then we went to where rice noodles are made, which is with rice flour in a paste pushed through a "sieve" and boiled. Then it was off to see bamboo sticky rice being made. This involves cooking ...

The stes were extremely busy with locals as it was the Khmer New Year - but we got a good viewing of the countryside and how the locals wnjoy their New Year. (At one of the sites, following her fame on local Bolivian radio ... ... Lindsey was interviewed for local Cambodian FM radio!)
Battambang, Cambodia aandl... its picture postcard as red Chinese lanterns bob and sway in the breeze creating a magical ambiance. We flirt with the tailoring for which the town is famous. Though concerns over quality and Chris's realisation that all suite designs are copied from Next Directories prevent a mistake. Kate's having her ups and downs with the local wildlife. She takes well a rat scampering over her feet whilst in the loo but then points out ''Chris look! It's a mouse!''. No Kate, that's ...
