... by a middle aged drunk woman who took us in the wrong direction. As it got dark, we conceded defeat and headed back to the city. We spent a few hours in a pub then decided to catch a midnight bus out there. At 3:30 am on the 5th day of travel, we finally made it to the mountains.
After about 3 hours sleep we were up and on our way to Arapahoe Basin. We got to the top of the hill, bleary eyed and stiff, but all of a sudden filled with energy. We gave each other a big hug, ...

We crossed the Rockies over independence Pass with ...

Very pristine environment above the tree line. Not a good place to be in the middle of winter.....
Beautiful views and the Aspen trees just beginning to change colour as winter approaches....

... town for groceries. The remainder of the time we simply read and relaxed.
From Beaver Lake, we connected with the Collegiate Peaks Scenic Byway along the upper Arkansas River Valley, driving south to Buena Vista, Colorado. We had traveled perhaps 30 miles so it was time to take a break and we stopped to shop at the weekly farmer's market. We met a young couple from Ft. Collins who suggested that we camp near Mt. Princeton where we ...
