Historical Traveler Reviews of Teetotum Hotel Tulum
So Zen in the Yucatan
from cxm548
This place is beautiful, so clean, fresh and zen. The yoga classes in the morning on the rooftop overlooking a jungle under the warm Mexican sun are fabulous! The food at the restaurant was lite and delicious, had some blended green fruit drink that seemed like my body received vitamins it had always been missing! Quick jaunt to the beach which is pristine and nearly empty, like the beaches you see in the movies but never find -- perfect sand, no seaweed, crabs or other sharp things, looks like a postcard photo every hour. You should definitely check it out. Oh, and the town is sweet -- a real Mexican town with families out for ice cream and watching their children in football matches -- so quaint, real and refreshing.
Very cool boutique hotel.

Apparently the name Teetotum sounds a little odd in Spanish so don't be surprised if you get strange looks from the natives when you mention where you are staying but this place is fantastic. Karen and Richard are great hosts and the atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed. The food and coffee are excellent and the rooms come with a safe, bar fridge and iPod dock. Perfect. Close to the town and the beach we really enjoyed our four nights, we would have stayed longer but all rooms were booked so we had to move on. The hotel looks great too and lounging around with smoothies or coffee after a trip to the beach was ideal.
Totally relaxing

Just returned to the UK after spending a week over Christmas at Teeotum. A little gem of a place located between both the main town of Tulum and the beaches. The rooms are really clean, comfortable and practical and with only four rooms, there is a really laid back feel to Teeotum.
The location means that you can walk into Tulum town in the evening (about a five minute walk) which has a good selection of restaurants and a few bars - also means you can leave the car at the hotel and have a drink or two too! The beach is a longish walk, an okay bike ride or a three minute drive from the hotel and there are loads of places that you can have lunch at, hire sun beds etc.
The food at Teeotum is great too and breakfast is a laid back affair that can last for most of the morning if you want!
We normally prefer bigger hotels, but Teeotum had a great feel to it and acted as an excellent base to explore the area (I would suggest getting a hire car) and the owners, Richard and Karen, really make you feel comfortable and at home throughout your stay. What a joy not to have a TV too - you get use to not having one very quickly! Will definitely stay again if we ever make it over to Tulum again.
Wonderful place to stay!

Just returned from a wonderful week at Teetotum and I miss it already. This 4 room boutique hotel is new, clean, and well designed. The owners put an amazing amount of hard work and thought into the small details that make this place unique and perfect.
Teetotum has a really good breakfast and lunch. (Dinner service and bar are being planned but were not open yet.) The menu is a nice combination of delicious takes on Mexican and local dishes and food you start to crave after traveling. I was very grateful for the excellent coffee each morning and healthier options such as granola.
The hotel is on the road to beach. The location is great to get to nearby ruins, cenotes, and towns. It is an easy walk into town but the beach is a little too far to walk to if you are in vacation mode. However, it is quick and easy to catch a cab from the hotel and there are also bikes available to borrow. I enjoyed being close to town and exploring the shops, restaurants, and taco stands. I also enjoyed just relaxing at the hotel.
The owners and staff are awesome and very helpful with recommendations of things to do in the area. Overall, this is one of the best places I have ever stayed at.
Teetotum - a gem in paradise
from BeachBooker
We were very impressed with Teetotum - located between the amazing beaches and "downtown Tulum" nothing was far away (Mayan ruins, cenotes, eco-tours...) the rooms are clean and well appointed (AC, mini-bar, king beds...) cool rooftop and downstairs lounge areas to chill out - awesome courtyard too (with a pool and palapa) which lights up beautifully at night - the staff is personable, knowledgeable and the owners are hands on and extremely accomidating - and don't miss the food - even if you cannot get a room (only four, so book in advance - we saw people turned away due to availability) the talented chef prepares wonderful ceviche and the french toast is outstanding - we will be returning to Teetotum for sure (tomorrow if it was possible) a don't miss when in Tulum - relax and enjoy!
Teetotum makes for a great stay
from jva110
Tulum is a nice relaxing destination to start with having great beaches and great people. It was nice to be able to find a place to stay that matched the rest of the experience. Teetotum was a nice location close to both the main town and the beach. The people working there were very pleasant and helpfull. Spoke english which was a plus. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I would certainly stay here again if I ever get to return to Tulum.
Daumen Hoch!
from amroonie

Clean (the rooms are sooo attractive) and Casual (the atmosphere on the property and the whole area....easy travel to local attractions and the beach). I highly recommend this intimate setting as part of an enjoyable Tulum experience!

Teetotum Hotel - Ristorante - Hall: "Trendy, accessibile e alla moda!"
from koenl
Thera & Koen Utrecht, Paesi Bassi.
Teetotum Hotel - Restaurant - Lounge: "Trendy, afordable and cool!"
from koenl
My girlfriend and I visited Tulum in august 2007. We were looking for an afordable, nice and cool place to stay. We found it all in Teetotum, new in town. Since the wet season can get pretty hummit, airconditioning and a fan is what you need. The beachhotels are (almost all) without electricity and therefore can not provide this. Teetotum can! And besides that Teetotum is (unlike the beachhotels) afordable with 70 US dollars a night. Combine that with trendy clean rooms, personal attention, a pool, a good chef and you'll enjoy Tulum to the fullest! For us, it was 'a great basecamp' from where to visit the wonderfull beaches, ruines and cenotes of Tulum. Teetotum is located on the road to the beach and therefore easy to find.
