Long bus journey back to Bangkok today and the fact that the streets were full of people in yoots dancing and partying made it even longer. It took us and hour and a half to get from one end of street to the other. Everyone just has huge containers of water in the back of yoot and throws it over everyone. I was glad today we were safe behind the glass in the bus and luggage was underneath. What a great time of year to be here, everyone was wearing funny hats and sunnies and covered in rose po...
Bangkok, Thailand jennypenny... jungle herbs!!

Although we did get to see many positives of the Akha way of life we also saw some of the rough. After having stayed in 'Sinchai' we asked our guide if they would take us along to Leepar village given our foiled previous attempt. It also meant we had a translator, Tam, with us. The contrast was quite stark. Leepar felt so much poorer and almost like a council estate. We went back to the house I stayed in before and bumped into my 'mum'. When ...

She’s also a fanatical cook so most of her lessons extend into whole afternoons of messing around in the kitchen and experimenting with Thai herbs, spices and her abundance of home-grown produce. No complaints there mate!

Last week I took on another two: a teacher at a local Thai school and her student. They want to do three nights a week on Mondays, Wednesdays ...
Chiang Rai, Thailand scottwoz... as well as worship and the sharing of God's word every night.

The actual center that we are staying at has an amazing story behind it. The center was first at a church, but they made the leaders and the kids move to a new place. So, the leader was looking for a new location for the center and asking God to provide. She got the verse Genesis 12:1-3 where God told Abram to leave his country, people, and ...
Musagee, Chiang Mai, Thailand erincastillo...
Chiang Rai, Thailand jhump28... t even come close!!! it was not helped by a toothless woman, slumped asleep, presumed dead, untill she began with the piglet noises on my shoulder for the whole journey. i was dribbled on and was considering a marriage proposal, seeing as how close we had become!!. pai was interesting enough, but jam packed full of tourists and what seemed a once unique mountain town, has turned into a big tourist trap (a seemingly unfortunate fate for most of ...
Malysia to North Thailand (Chiang Rai), Thailand danhobsonWe woke up at 7am as we had arranged for the guy that we spoke to the day previously to wake us so that we could go mountain biking. Kim wasn't waking up and nor was I so we said our goodbyes and went back to sleep til 10am. I left Kim in bed to go to find an internet cafe to update the blogs and found an excellent place just around the corner. 1h later i went back to get Kim up and out as checkout was approaching. We stowed the bags at reception and went ...
Chiang Rai, Thailand adam_and_kim... land mine detectors) Their is also the KMT Kuomintang - Anti Communists refugees from China. Who sense the 1980 have been increasingly less militaristic in their dealings with the Thai government. My plain is to head further north and explore the border towns of Mae Sai, Mae Salong, and Sop Ruak (on the Laos side). Maybe I can rent a motor bike for a few days and cross into the Burma Border if it is open. All for now... Justin
Chiang Rai, Thailand jshaffer... and get there by public transport instead. So, we just took a public bus 20 km out of Mae Sai and asked the driver to drop us off at the turning for Doi Tung. As planned, there were songthaews waiting to charge 500 baht for a half day tour. Sadly the morning we went, the place was really misty. Right at the top of the mountain we paid respects at Wat Phra That (Doi Tung Temple) before heading for Mae Fae Luang. I really loved ...
Chiang Rai, Chiang Rai, Thailand clearystephen... Burma for 1,5 years; he was cool. We started to walk. The first village we came to was a very primitive one with one of the hill-tribes. We felt like idiots standing there looking at them. It was like we were at a museum looking at ancient people. In the second village they seemed to have a lot more tourists going through so it was not the same museum feeling. In this village we also spent the night and learned that you can use bamboo to ...
