We left a little later than planned; we'd booked an a/c car for the 25 km journey to Wang Noi to catch the bus for Pranchin Buri but the driver turned up in a tuk-tuk - not quite the a/c we were expecting. Anyway after explaining that our backs wouldn't survive the journey we got a car - Madame "You pay now's" nephew. We ended up driving the wrong way along the dual carriageway to get to the bus station at Wang Noi - expediency rules here. The bus station turned ...
Prachin Buri, Thailand rosandjohn... inadequate for the weather it was being subjected to. However it withstood the onslaught and I remained dry. When the rain did at last abate it was replace by wildlife. From many years of watching BBC wildlife documentaries I was under the impression that most wildlife was timid and held a natural if not fear at least caution to humans. Apparently not in Khao Yai. Most of the campsite visitors, huge amounts of deer, were, while not afraid, at least ...
Prachin Buri, Thailand yakob1976... markings on trees. There are about 500 tigers in the park but we didn't see any of those either. Some trees in the park are used to make Malaria medicine so we saw quite a few of those that had been scraped up to get to the important part. Our guide said one kilogram of the tree is valued at 10,000 Baht ($3,300 US) in Thailand or 100,000 Baht ($33,000 US) outside of the country. (33Baht = 1USD) Brian was doing ok so long as he could stop and ...
Pratchin Buri, Thailand minerguyAfter a few days in Pattaya with a last good night with Phi Boy and a cousin of A, me finally riding a bike again (well being at the back), few hours sleep and visiting Little Siam (= thai Madurodam), we made our way to Sa Kaeo. Again no bus needed as the uncle of A was so kind to bring us in his pick-up. Just be no surprise to tell you I was in the back ;-) In Thailand is very common that family helps eachother, with accomodation to sleep, giving ...
Sa Kaeo, Thailand foegoerFabulous Idea! Take a bunch of old bikes and a bunch of young and old folks and throw about some camping gear heading South for the cool of the regions most beautiful mountian range! We were not alone in our thinking re: destination but to get there on vintage bikes? We were alone on that one! But get there we did! After meeting at KM7's home we departed little before 1pm and made a quick stop for gas before hitting the highway. After about 15 ...
Khao Yai, Thailand lozexpat... Mr A who we realised was completely mad as on the journey in he kept on pulling over and getting us all out of the jeep to look at anything interesting he saw on the way, such as Monitor Lizards, spiders and Great Hornbills. The guy exuded such enthusiasm for the National Park and everything that could be found there, so we knew we were in for a fantastic day. On the way to the Visitor Centre, we pulled over at a view point and were all given a pair of ...
Kabinburi, Thailand evamaria85Our home here for the two days had us sleeping on the floor which brought back memories of Japan although I don't remember so many insects there with my legs and feet looking like they'd been used as a dart board. The day kicked off early, even earlier for the kids who were coerced into doing early morning aerobics, with more games and activities throughout the day. They seemed to really enjoy the 'teach your teacher Thai' activity with them ...
Kao-Phuluang Forest, Thailand alasdairmAnother 'my god is it really that time' wake up this morning, this time at 05:00. Made a little easier though by Pen playing some western / international music while getting ready, the first I'd heard in weeks making a change from the constant folk songs back in Phayakkhaphum which all just seem to sound the same to me, a bit like a lot of western boy bands then I suppose. In typical Thai fashion our mini ...
Kao-Phuluang Forest, Thailand alasdairmWe arrived in Chiang Mai yesterday, forgot how wonderful and exciting this city can be! We dined at the 100 Years Anique House (will post pictures soon!) All the wares in the restaurant were made by local artisans and were for sale. The food was a pregnant woman's dream: Sweet, Sour, Spicy, Hot ........and FRIED! Afterwards we perused the Night Bazarre and Brian left me for ...
